There is still a category for New Vessels. If you go to the main BC Ferries-Discussion board, you'll find a sub category at the top of the page, beside the Impact of Ferries section.

Flugel, there no longer is a specific 'new-vessels' board anymore due to the recent reorganization, which I had assumed you were a part of..... hmmmm. Hey, if this has given you the opportunity to enjoy a good "hmmmm", that's super. Everyone needs at least 3 good "hmmmm's" a day, and this forum can usually give you your daily dose. If you've having trouble finding the new-vessels page on our board, let me know. I think that all the forum regulars are smart enough to find it. ;D It looks pretty specific to me....even though you need to go through another page to find it. But most people will wonder to themselves "hey, what's up with those 2 sub-boards, I think that I'll see what's going on with those". Whether you're a fan of the sub-boards or not, and whether I'm a fan of them is offset by the equal number of people who find them a good way to stack pages. But I think you should be able to handle it, just as well as you can handle any type of change. Good luck to us all! And that's my comment on the forum's 2009 fall refit, done at Latsaoc Shipyard. Keep BC forum refit jobs in BC forum refit yards!

Sub-board?... What's a sub-board? Maybe they just don't show up with the forum skin that I am using ;D. Ah the popcorn kernel. Hard to believe that so much fun can come from such a small seed, although it seems clear you can provide enough of your own fertilizer to grow bushels of weeds in any kind of soil. Someone is gonna be a shoe-in for a whole armload of trophies at the forum awards banquet this year.

I am beginning to think that the Coastal Celeb is the official look but don't touch member of the fleet. It's absolutely ridiculous having a brand new ship tied up most of the time over the winter. Somebody at the head office needs to give their head a shake. The CC should be moved as the #1 vessel out of HB. We paid to build it and the time has come to put the damn thing to regular use. It's a ferry not a private yacht.

Various issues discussed before (acronym "LELP" to use for future posts, to save rehash time): - Lower winter traffic - Economies of scale re comparison of cost to operate a Super-C vessel with low off-season traffic levels - Lack of crew training on the mainland-side for this ship - Perspective of the few years now after the recent construction compared with the total expected service-life of the vessel.

It looks like according to RBI the SOVI is gonna be running on Friday and Sunday doing extra sailings. I guess her refit will be pretty much done by then so they are gonna use her as an extra. The SOVI is on RBI for Thursday Nov 26 back in full service. Guess we wont be seeing the Renaissance then on route 1. And the Cowichan is coming back on Wednesday which means the Coquitlam will be out again. That seemed like a short refit for the Cowichan. Can anyone confirm this??

SOVI will be leaving Deas today to return to SWB. The transfer crew was sent over on the 11:00 CC.

The Alberni is currently approaching Deas, and it looks like she may have been pulled there by tug. I noticed the Smit Princess next to the Alberni at Tsawwassen Terminal this morning, and she's currently out in front of the ferry right now in the Fraser River moving at 3 knots.

The SOBC is slated for refit in January and the info has now been loaded into RBI. It shows that the SOVI will be #1 out of Tsawwassen and the CC #1 out of Swartz Bay. The CR is shown as #2 at SB on Fridays and Sundays. However the CR is also shown as #1 at Departure Bay on the same days.............to be updated soon, I assume?

Unfortunately, the Coastal Inspiration is not available since she is required on Route 30 full time. Route 2 has two different vessels to choose from to fill in for the Coastal Renaissance.

Didn't notice this until now. . .
The Queen of Cowichan has completed her refit and is back in action on Route 2. The mule otherwise known as the Queen of Coquitlam is back in rest mode at Departure Bay.

Today was the first day back in service for the Cowichan. The Renaissance continues to sit in Berth 1 at Departure Bay with most of her lights turned off. I suppose BCF will quietly have her out of service for most of the winter, like last year, but without the announcements to avoid public outrage.
I'd imagine that some of the crew will have no choice but to stick around on board the Cowichan on Monday-Thursday, since there are no spare berths available after the 5pm sailing. Scott was mentioning to me last night when he was arriving at Departure Bay aboard the 7pm Queen of Oak Bay, that the Coquitlam left the dock so the Oak Bay could dock. Once the Oak Bay left, the Coquitlam was tied up again.

Has anyone noticed if CR had the dent in her hull repaired?

Tenaka:
- does anyone know where she's getting her refit done?
She heads back to Whaletown this weekend, and I'm wondering where she's leaving from.
I'd love to get some pictures of her off of Nanaimo in the strait.

I'd love to get some pictures of her off of Nanaimo in the strait. A few weeks back, I posted several on-site photos of her at Fraser Shipyard, in Queensborough. Siitech shows her still there. I don't know if those Siitech placements are absolutely accurate, but if so, she's still not in the water.

The CR is now my favourite vessel in the white wave fleet, and it seems wasteful to have her just sit there in DPB-1 all winter.

The CR will see a lot more service come Christmas and the New Year, but much of it won't be on route 2. She'll be positioned at Swartz Bay as #2 in January while the SOVI replaces the SOBC at Tsawwassen. Then in the spring the CC will go into refit so the CR will have another stint at SB. Then the CI will go into refit in late spring/early summer and I'm sure they'll use the CR on rt30 to keep up with the overheght capacity. So it seems the Cowichan will still be a mainstay on rt2 for many weeks during the year.
