I really enjoy those "from the air" photographs of the ferry terminals. It's a fun game of figuring out which terminal it is (and trying not to read the caption that tells where it is....).
thanks for posting these

Here is a link to some pictures of a Spirit bridge. They appear to be taken in 2005 from the Saanich Peninsula Squadron.

1999? I admit I didn't pay that much attention but I was pretty certain that the REAL Maggie's last trip was in the late 80's...

1999 was when the route was shut down. PMIII/QoB was on the Route then.

I agree with Barnacle, the original Maggie was sunk in WW2 and the Maggie 2 was shut down in the late eighties, and sold along with the other ship on the route(Princess Victoria) to Sea Containers. They were both towed to the Orient, one for use as a tourist attraction and one to be broken down. I think the Maggie was to be used for the Tourist Attraction, but she caught on fire and is no more.
Maggie 3, The Queen of Burnaby in disguise, was in service for a few years in the early nineties.
For some reason--The Victoria-Seattle Route was not a money maker, like they thought it would be.

Yes, that site is definitely going into the favorites list for future reference. Not only does the BC Ferries page have a lot of info there, but for people who like looking at ships in general, there is a lot of info on other pages, too. The links (or "lankar") link on the main page has a wealth of links to other sites as well, including other info sites and a number of ship fan sites. Thank you! It is entirely appropriate to post links like that here. Ferry/ship specs, including numbers and places are pretty easy to figure out... even in Swedish

Her draft is 12.3 feet That is a little less than 6 inches shorter than the Steel Electric draft. Though the propulsion would probably have to be different unless WSF would like to deal with RAD's (right angle drive units)

BOAT BLOGGING from ANACORTES Neat page with lots of large pictures of various ships on or about Puget sound... A lot of drydock images, as well as two of the Rhododendron and some other small ferries. In addition, one of the photos had the following interesting caption, "A view through a ferry's gullet." See if you can find it. www.davesmock.com/boatblog/

Found another one... Article is about a new high-speed being launched for a company called Cotai Strip. I don't know exactly how to upload the actual image along with the article, but just check out the link and see the paint scheme on this ferry. www.marinelog.com/DOCS/NEWSMMVII/2007aug00240.html--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- August 24, 2007 Austal launches first ferry for Cotai Strip The Cotai Strip CotaiJet , the first of ten 47.5 meter passenger catamarans for Venetian Marketing Services Limited has been launched at Austal's Henderson shipyard--unveiling the fleet's flamboyant livery for the first time. Finished in electric blue, with a fountain flowing with gold and sparkling stars, the high speed ferries will provide a link from Hong Kong locations to he Cotai Strip on Macau. With the tenth hull currently on the production line, Austal is on track to meet its delivery schedule for all vessels to be in operation in 2007 and 2008. Since signing the contract last November, Austal has been stepping up implementation of Advanced Ship Building (ASB) design and construction techniques. With the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel on The Cotai StripTM due to officially open on August 28, Austal Chief Operating Officer Steve Murdoch said the company was extremely proud to be able to launch the first vessel so soon after winning the contract. To enable ferry transport support to be made available as soon as the new Pac On Ferry Terminal is available in Macao, the first vessel is scheduled to leave Austal's Henderson shipyard on September 24, ahead of the remaining vessels, which will follow in multiples. The Hong Kong to Macao service is already the world's largest ferry route in terms of passenger numbers with last year's passenger numbers from Hong Kong to Macao rising more than 13 per cent to 14.3 million passengers. Ridership is likely to double in the next three years, driven by the Las Vegas Sands Corp's development on the Cotai Strip. Powered by four MTU 16 cylinder 4000 series diesel engines, the 47.5 m passenger catamarans have an operating speed of 42 knots carrying more than 400 passengers. That looks like a very cool ferry. Mill Bay, to add that ferry picture into your reply, all you had to do is upload it to any photo site then link it to your reply. (Unfortunately, I'm competely useless on the explaining. Maybe Flugel or another person can help).

That looks like a very cool ferry. Mill Bay, to add that ferry picture into your reply, all you had to do is upload it to any photo site then link it to your reply. (Unfortunately, I'm competely useless on the explaining. Maybe Flugel or another person can help). 2 different scenarios: ================ 1) for posting a pic from another website: To copy a picture from a website, to this forum-thread: - copy the URL address, not the image-picture itself. ie. the "http://www.photo.com" address is copied. - in the thread, select the "insert image" icon (2nd row, 4th from left). - in the narrow space between the 2 items, "paste" the URL address that you copied. - that should work. ============== 2) for posting your own picture to the forum (starting with a digital or scanned pic on your own computer: ok, so the preliminary step is to upload your picture from your computer to a free photo-hosting website. I like TinyPic, as it's easy, and you don't have to register for anything. go to tinypic.com hit the "browse" button on the right, and direct it to where you have the picture saved on your computer. hit "upload now" then hit "copy" on the 3rd item down...which is URL for email & IM then, on the ferry forum thread, hit the icon (2nd row, 3rd from left) for "Insrt ftp link". Then, between the 2 [ftp] boxes, paste the item that you copied from TinyPic. This will post the pic as a LINK, not a direct picture. This is so that if your picture is too large (especially too wide), it won't ruin the existing thread. There are ways to resize your photo so that you can display it directly....but this needs to be done before you upload it into TinyPic, and it's a bit of a hit & miss game. Hope this works....

My all-time odd ferry photograph: Stena Challenger, on the beach at Calais in 1995. It looks as if the child has met an alien. What an unusual angle.

That photo is always humorous. Kinda Freaky though, I wonder what kept it from falling on it's side?

Here's a few cold-linked pics of various ferries, that I found while surfing the 'net. I'm playing the "this ferry reminds me of a BC ferry" game.... =========================
Here's one that kind of reminds me of the Sidney/Tsawwassen, likely because of the long-area between the bridge & bow. Or maybe even the Chinook-II / Sechelt Queen because of the cut-off bow.[ftp]http://www.alaskareport.com/images2/indonesia_boat.jpg[/ftp]
Here's one that reminds me of Quinsam. It's the Wolfe Islander III, from Kingston to a St.Lawrence River island: [ftp]http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/ferry/Wolfe.jpg[/ftp]

It's the Wolfe Islander III, from Kingston to a St.Lawrence River island: [ftp]http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/ferry/Wolfe.jpg[/ftp] I thought so too I've seen several pictures of the Wolfe Islander, and I always thought it could be a sister ship to the Quinsam and Quinitsa.
