ALL ROUTES: Temporary Schedule Changes for Several Routes Start Saturday, Oct. 16
Washington State Ferries will temporarily operate reduced sailing schedules on most routes beginning this Saturday, Oct. 16. The change will help offer more predictable and reliable service systemwide in the face of crewing shortages due to a global shortage mariners that has been worsened by the pandemic.
Therefore the following changes to service will begin this weekend:
• Seattle/Bainbridge, Edmonds/Kingston and Mukilteo/Clinton: One-boat service instead of two
• Fauntleroy/Vashon/Southworth: Daily two-boat schedule instead of three
• Anacortes/San Juan Islands: Daily three-boat schedule instead of four with no vehicle reservations
The updated schedules that will begin on Saturday are currently listed as “inactive” on the schedule page online and will become active this weekend when they begin.
Reservations for San Juan Islands Route
In an effort to accommodate customers affected by the service change who still need to travel, new reservations for travel in the San Juan Islands has been closed until further notice. The suspension is intended to leave capacity for those who were on cancelled sailings who still need to travel. Customers with reservations for sailings no longer in service will be given priority on other sailings and loaded on a first-come, first-served basis. Existing reservation holders whose sailings were not affected should still plan on arriving to their departing terminal at least 45 minutes before their scheduled sailing.
Customers who choose not to travel during this time will not incur a fee. Those passengers who need to travel standby without a reservation may encounter delays and should get to the terminal early.
We will continue to provide updates as they become available. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work to provide reliable service during this challenging time.

Ferry Alert: Faunt/Va/SW - Route Reduced to 2-Boat Service on Sundays Starting this Weekend
Until further notice, the Fauntleroy/Vashon Island/Southworth route will be reduced to two-boat service on Sundays beginning on July 4. Starting this Sunday, the route will operate on its current Sunday schedule without the #3 vessel. Customers should plan ahead and check the schedule online to verify sailing times.
This difficult decision was made as a result of ongoing crew shortages and the need to reallocate limited resources throughout the ferry system. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding as WSF works to maintain as much service as possible.

Vashon Thriftway (grocery store) updated the checkout line signs several years ago with ones that have pictures of ferries that have served Vashon Island. This is one of them: Checkout line signage w/ferry by LB Bryce, on Flickr The Hiyu pictured here is *not* the one that served the Tahlequah/Pt. Defiance route, but is the one that was built in 1924.

The Pt. Townsend - Coupeville route won't be going to a 2 boat schedule until June 6th at the earliest...
"Although WSF had previously scheduled a second boat to return to the Port Townsend/Coupeville route on May 9 at the start of this year’s peak season, COVID-related crewing shortages have forced WSF to delay providing this additional service until at least June 6.
All reservations that were made on the #2 vessel through June 6 will be cancelled—customers are encouraged to check their itinerary to see if they’re affected by this schedule change.
Customers whose reservations have been cancelled will need to secure new reservations for an available sailing. If you need assistance rebooking your travel, you can call 206-464-6400 to speak with a customer service agent.
We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding while we continue to navigate this unique and challenging time."
