I also have had both of those work since the up date. I am still finding that when I click on NEW participated button it sends me to random pages related to what ever I wanted to look at. Some times its page one, some times the last page and in other instances today pages somewhere in the middle.

The one thing that I am a bit of a fan of is the like button, I look at it as I can show that I agree or appreciate something with out having to make the "Cool pic" or "I totally agree/disagree" (with no explanation of why). And at the same time I wish they would have a dislike button.
As for the posting limit, in some cases I feel it would not be a bad thing. I am new here and the short period I have been a part of this forum I have less then 100 posts, and to this day I am learning how to "fit in?". I enjoy reading and learning every day and put my two cents in when I have a strong feeling about something. I have thousands of pictures but for the most of them I have found a shot that is very close already posted, and unless I can get a shot that is different in some way or of better quality, why post it? Everyone has already seen it!
Just my two cents on the conversation.

I must say I am still on the fence with this up-date. Things I thought were neat do not seem to work the way I was expecting, I thought the follow thing would give some kind of a notice when who ever you are following posts something. Guess I was wrong on that one. I also am a big fan of the recent threads, its a good tool that allows me to quickly check and see whats going on. Hats off to all the moderators for working the forum through this change! Edit: This being my first post since the up-date, I have fallen off the fence! Not a fan of the new way to actually post.

I must say, when I found my wife had bought me a Nikon 5100 for Christmas I was a little disappointed as I was wanting to get a 5200. But now that I have been using the 5100 for a few weeks I love it. Lots of learning to still do, but after playing with it today at HSB I have nothing but good things to say about this camera!

Why is the Queen of Oak Bay at Langdale? She left HSB at around 2:40 and looked empty. She actually made the Queen of Coquitlam late for her 3pm sailing as the Coquitlam was sitting out in the bay of a good 5 to 10 min waiting for the Oak Bay to leave. A shot of her departure.

On busy weekends it is most definitely used on the Cumberland in the southern gulf, but I cant speak for the Capilano.

I also found a 5100 under the tree. I was really thinking of waiting for the 5200s to come out but my lovely wife decided for me, along with several gift cards. Now the great lens shop can begin.

I have just returned home from my usual truck the family around to all the gatherings and am ready to call Christmas done and over, the kids are in bed and I get to have a well deserved drink.
It has been a fantastic year and I want to thank everyone here for all of there contributions here from pictures to research on topics and down to tracking our old Vs on there last voyage.
Marry Christmas, (and at this point a little bit of humbug) and a very happy new year to all from the Mayne house hold.

There were some issues with the Burrard Pacific Breeze that had to be addressed. One of them was the fact that it sat higher on the water than originally estimated. However, with the issues identified and hopefully resolved, you would think that the same contracting company would be able to build another sister more effectively and build on what was learned during the BPB build. I'm ok with contracting jobs outside of BC if there are considerable advantages for doing so. This one, however, doesn't make sense to me. BPB was approached by trans link and they did not want to bid on the build due to the new federal government builds. I don't blame trans link for this, they are working with extremely limited funds that are cutting service just to try and keep the numbers working. 2 million dollars can buy quite a few buses. Do we make it like down in the U.S where the ships have to be made in our country? At what dollar amount do we say its worth keeping the build local or not. The build cost must they are quoting must include the tariff or trans link needs to get some better number crunchers on the pay roll, or do they just expect the feds to wave the tariff? Don't get me wrong I think the ships should have been built and the government should have stepped up and covered the 2 million as it would have been a good investment. Epic fail Liberals!

I never stated that the day was a fluke, I stated that the temperature swings through the day were the fluke. This causing the extremely large amounts of ice build up. The cables have a coating on them that should have prevented this build up from happening, but as in some cases what works in theory and in testing some times doesn't work as well as it should in real world conditions.
I would not call it moderate winter conditions, Burnaby, New west, Most of the tri city's and North ish Surrey where what I would call a fairly sever winter storm.

So... the first modest dump of snow this year, and the new Port Mann is shut down because of ice falling off the support cables, with numerous cars damaged. Is this a design flaw that is going to bedevil this vaunted structure every time we have foul weather? (Cue remarks from certain quarters regarding 'whining and complaining'.) They should have put heated cables on the bridge before it opened. I find it funny, I drove over the Port Mann, Alex Fraser today, and on both bridges ice where falling from the bridge. I saw several cars pulled over at the bottom of the Alex Fraser bridge and there doesn't seem to be a single report on it. I spend a lot of time driving all over the lower mainland everyday and even out of town, in this kind of weather this stuff falls from over head structures. I am not saying there is not going to be a problem in the future with all the cables going to center pillars (or what ever you want to call them) then there will be more billed up, today was a bit of a fluke when it comes to temperature changes through out the day and this amplified the problem. And who wants to pay to heat all the cables when there is the change of freezing

Seems news worthy to me. It seems according to CTV news the Tug CRAIG TRANS has been detained in Halifax because of poor living conditions for the crew. According to the quick blurb the sailors ran out of food three days ago and where forced to dock due to weather. It was heading to Montreal to pick up a scrap ship and take it down to Mexico. I was not able to find the Video on CTV and they made no mention that it was the same tug that took the Saanich down to Mexico. Here is some info on her tugfaxblogspotcom.blogspot.ca/Do you know what the name of the ship is she was going to pick up ? I just thinking it may be the MV Fundy Paradise en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_VacationlandNo they didn't say anything about the ship they where going to get.

After hearing Michal Smith this morning on CKNW and hearing both sides of the off shore build, I understand both sides of the argument and think no matter what trans link did they would be criticized. Ether wasting tax dollars and build local or the situation we now have.
A no win in my eyes but I would have preferred to see them build the ship here. (Even though we would probability seen cost over runs and it would most likely been finished late)

I was expecting this conversation was going to be more on the being built off shore instead of a local build but I am much more interested in what WCK proposed.
The technology of battery's has been huge in the last few years. Actually the idea of only charging the battery's for a very short time then sending it off again has been around for years in other applications. I think this would be a fantastic place to run a battery powered ship, it gets its main charge over night and can get its opportunity charge when loading/unloading. They have also gotten a lot lighter, they are not only the old lead acid weigh a ton pigs they once used to be. To the nay sayers, its not that its an unproven technology, just no one has done it on a boat before.
Don't get me wrong I love diesel motors, I have them in everything I drive but I also feel battery power has a lot of potential in some applications, and in this day and age fuel prices are only going to get higher and we need to fined ways to run everything in a more cost affective way.

I have all ways wondered, how much extra time is required to unload the Cs when they use this ramp?

I am sorry, it is not in my nature to step in to a conversation like this, but I can not just let this be Mr Horn posts by any means being a bully. (I know he can stand up for him self but other perspectives can help some situations) Mr. Cheese with how you post and the frequency of your posting you should be open to some criticism. I will never clam to be perfect but I will always re read my posts and make sure I have covered the entire thread before I comment and or ask a question just to make sure what I want to know has not already been answered previously. How you are doing it is bullying me by giving me no tips. If you or other people give me tips to improve my posting, then I will not say it is bulling me. I don't see the PMs that you receive but do see the posts that are put up around your posts and you seem to receive more tips and help then any other member on the forum. Mr Cheese I think you should re think your position on Mr. Horns posts and photo work.

I as of late have been lazy also, most of my pictures are from my i-phone 4s, or my wife's (not so small) fuji S3000. When I do go on outings having my camera bag with me doesn't really bother me. I have been packing a dipper bag and the camera bag for the last 4 years. I really do like my D30 but its getting old, and comparing it to my father in laws D3100 it just doesn't stand up.

(my present, but for her so I can take her portraits of the kids) And my father in law has just bought him self a few new lenses ( a 17- 35mm and a 18- 200mm) that I plan on borrowing (thank you black Friday deals in the US.) My Father is also huge in to the Nikons and if I bought anything else I might be out of the family.
