As for the propane conversation this has always bothered me. Just from my past experiences with the ferries RVs must turn off all propane tanks and they limit the amount of tanks you can take with you but one of my (several ago now) trucks ran on propane and because I like long range (and have a issue with having the biggest motor I can find) had Two 80lb tanks and a 150lb tank in the box. I had asked on several tips if I needed to close my tank valves and was told no it wasn't required!?!?! Whats the difference.
Don't even get me started on my 5 brand new empty gas can story.

I cant think of a better place to post this question. I have a question for the experts on the forum, I have been searching and am un able to find my direct answer. After the city of Van and Vic where built the Sidney and Tsawwassen where moved to route 2. After the Q of Sanaich and Q of Esquimalt where built did they run all 4 on route 1 or did they split them up over 1 and 2 till the final three where build and placed on route 2

Fantastic sun rise Mr. horn, I wish I got to spend as much time on ferries as you get to.

I think she is looking better then the poor Saanich. (not by much though) Its very sad to see the what were the back bones of the fleet for so long just rusting away and I hope to see her and the Saanich have a better fate then the Sidny. I am wondering how much has been striped out of her, and how long she will sit there. Do people that buy these old vessels really have a plan for them or is it just a pipe dream that winds up in a scrap yard? Thanks for getting the great pictures for us to see guys!

And on that note, depending on the weekend if you were to tent it you could put one up at my place we are just a 10 min walk from the light house, you would have to deal with two dogs, two kids and wife. But you can lose them on the property easily

The Mayne resort looks nice, never stayed there but have heard good things. The people that I know on the island have there friends say there when they come over.

Yes I did. The view from the air really shows how bad the entire property and river front is, it is actually scary how bad it looks, with the pictures I have seen of the area I knew it was bad but I really didn't think it was that much of a eye sore. The best part of all the footage was the two gentlemen pulling tanks and such out of the river and putting them in that small boat!

As the recent pictures we have seen of her in recent I don't think she looks as good as the pictures she is being advertised with. And with where she has been parked I really don't think her interior is in that nice of shape.

I did last weekend on route 30, Saturday night. This person was on the out side (and myself) and when they were directed to move over one lane, yes they put there right turn signal on. It was probably my brother in laws finest moment! When we parked I asked him if he was going to put his club on the steering wheel and I am pretty sure he contemplated it. Not my family I just married in to them!

From Victoria to Fulford Harbour is 35min From Vancouver to Long Harbour 1h 25 to 3 hours depending on the day and what sailing you are on (how meany other island the boat stops at)
edit: add another 1h 35min for the Tsswassen to Swartz Bay ride

With the time of day that you will be traveling I would be taking the Google map route, you might hit bad traffic with the tunnel and or the lions gate bridge going the 99 all the way in. And you couldn't pay me to take highway one west bound over the port man bridge any time after 3pm.

I have always felt a bit of concern since the Tsawwassen was retired, suitable back up ships for route 9 seems to be very limited. To myself BC ferries idea of running close to 50 year old ship with the only real other boat that can run this route being very dedicated to its own run seems overly short sited. I know that my route is not a big money maker but the Nanny does see its very busy times, yes the winter shows lower numbers and when the years of Tsawwassen in the winter and the Nanny doing the summer runs seemed to work out well. I wait to hear the news run on a long weekend all sailings cancelled due to a broken boat and nothing to fill in for it. All I know is I will be sad when the Nanny is retired but it really seems that BC ferries needs to come up with a plan of replacing the ship or allowing a back up to come in to fill in while it is in for better up keep. Just my two cents
