Okay, With the impending moving of the Drop Trailer terminal from Downtown Nanaimo in 2017, It would be a great opportunity for BC Ferries to purchase or lease some of the land that is currently occupied by Seaspan and re-vamp its terminal for Gabriola Island service. I am talking about the Parking lot between the BCF Foot Passenger waiting room and the Seaspan Berth here. Gabriola bound traffic waiting to pay their fare could be taking off of Front Street all together which would help general traffic flow in Downtown. What do you think? Traffic could enter BC Ferries terminal via the same entrance the big Rigs use today, Near the BC Transit Bus Stop.

Thats good news. I was on 1071 for the first time today. The new ones are basically the same as the 1020-44's with a couple of minor changes. One notable change is the Stanchion posts in the very back of the bus as noticed in this picture below. www.flickr.com/photos/123779583@N06/31668106965/in/dateposted/The other addition to these buses is the first forward facing seat as you enter the bus on the driver's side. There is now a divider between the forward facing seat and the handicapped seats. Other than that I have not noticed anything else different.

Nanaimo Transit Fleet expansion: Today I was one of the first passengers to board #1070 On its First ever Run. We departed Woodgrove at 3:15pm on Route 91 for Parksville. According to the driver this is the first time this bus was put into service. There is another Brand New CNG unit in the Yard set to enter service Tomorrow. This is marking the end of a era for Nanaimo Transit as the New buses are put into service look for the D40LF"s to be gradually retired or moved to other communities. The oldest bus in the NRTS Fleet is #8097 and 8041. See pict of 1070 here www.flickr.com/photos/123779583@N06/31608376355/in/dateposted/

Why retire Carrier before the Greg? Wasn't the Carrier built in 74 and is one of the newer ships in the fleet age wise.

"When ya gotta go, ya gotta go"
Yes so true indeed, but this video clearly shows that if he would have pushed back the throttle or stopped the vessle before he left this would not have happened. It could have been a far worse outcome. Reminds me of the Queen of Cowichan, George Kwok incident off of Passage Island near Horseshoe Bay back in 1985. That incedent had a differn't outcome than this.
I have been on ferries when boats cut in front of the ferry. Many a time I have watched a boat taking on a ferry and have asked myself "Why the heck he did that.?!!"

Anyone know where BC Ferries plan on to take possession of the ship. Are they going to bring the Orca into Departure Bay upon arrival like the Coastals or somewhere else?
According to Vessel finder she arrives in Colon on Dec 14

Vessel finder now has added Canada beside Vancouver on its website. It makes since to me to deliver the ship to the Barbour rather than Tilbury in the river so Seaspan can inspect the vessel and do any part replacement or dry docking. I would assume the ship will need some TLC after such a long voyage.

Now we all can confirm Vancouver BC. I just checked the Pilots website and the Swift has a ETA of 14:00 at Brotchie for Vancouver on Dec 2. as of 1:34 pm today the vessle is located on Page 3 of Current traffic second vessle to the bottom of the page. Subject to change of course. This should be the Seaspan Swifts first and ONLY time ever needing a Pilot in BC waters that is.

It would have been a Whatcom County service rather then a State ferry. Why couldn't the state provide the service.
Interesting that someone thought about this though.
