What about a Blaine to Point Roberts route?
I am surprised that there is no such service that would delete the need for US Citizens to have to go through customs twice just to travel between the 2 places. The amount of time wasted to have to clear customs and travel time between Tsawwassen and White Rock and have to wait in line ups would be eliminated by a ferry service. If a car ferry is not viable then what about a passenger only service.
What do you think?

Thus means she will need a pilot when she does indeed enter CDN waters. So as January approaches we can monitor the CPA website for a more definite eta.

mv Tachek is northbound. She was passing Parksville at 2:30pm this afternoon.
I was sitting in the local Dairy Queen when I spotted a vessle northbound through the trees and looked through the Bino's. AIS can confirm this. She was on the west Side of Lasquitea Island.

After studying the photos of the cardeck am I correct in assuming Trucks, Campers, RVS, and the like will be parked on the Upper Deck, and the lower deck will be for under hights only. This is backwards of the Normal.

In the "Why on earth this is needed Category"
The Coastal Renaissance is listed on the CPA website needing a pilot on Nov 13 as it leaves Vancouver Drydock for Nanaimo anchorage. (Probably bound for Departure Bay. She leaves Drydock at 10 am. See for yourself:
pilot.kleinsystems.com/public/ppa/ppa_currenttraffic.aspx
Page 2 about 3/4 down the page.

With respect to the Alliford Bay-Skidegate Run I would wonder if such a new vessle would be able to use the existing ramp that the Nor-AD and Nor-EX uses. But at Alliford Bay a berth and Ramp Structure would have to be built. Otherwise the new vessle would have to have ramps built into the ships design which would make the practicallity of it been used else where in the fleet not feasable.
The only way I can see this working is building a berth and ramp at Alliford Bay Otherwise a siminlar K Barge design would need to be employed when mv Kwuna is to be replaced.

Interesting design. As a passenger I prefer to be able to have a view from above the car deck so that I can see what's on both sides of the vessel rather than have to walk through the maze of parked cars. The Quinsam is a pain in the neck. I rode on the SKeena Queen once and Liked the Idea of been allowed up top of the lounge. But truthfully on a short run of 10 minutes it doesn't really matter.
When I am on a longer run or in a heavy traffic zone such as the Nanaimo to Gabriola or the CR-Qcove runs I like to see other vessels in the area therefore in my opinion some sort of passenger deck or access above the car deck makes the voyage more pleasant and is a must.
Now after about 10 or so years of my yearly summer trips on the Powell River Queen people say that the ship is way too big for the winter and too small for the Summer on the Campbell River to Quadra Island run. The problem is trying to build vessels for routes that meets the need year round. Unfortunately there is no such thing as a "Goldilocks" vessle that is just right year round. Unless someone one could find a way to extend the ship in the summer and then take the piece out in the winter. Think of your kitchen table here, you can extend it when needed.

"Charm of a horizontal elevator"
Even though I never rode on the BSC from the pictures I have seen of it I think even some elevators have more charm especially in high class facilities. LOL!!!
Glad Quinitsa is back for a short time.

I have been thinking the last couple of days that even though BC Ferries does not own the ship, they are still partly helping to pay for the operation through subsidiaries. Re Alberni Legacy.
I wonder if you would take away the government funds would they be able to stay in business?

Yesterday at 16:30 I checked siitech and the Coquitlam had just exited Dease dock with the assistance of tugs. She was at sandheads at about 17:30-38ish and proceeded to Horseshoe Bay before finally arriving at Departure Bay around 21:30. She is to take over from the Coastal Renaissance until the Cowichan returns from refitt. According to RBI the Cowichan and Coquitlam Will be based out of Departure Bay this Xmass while the Alberni is sitting this Holiday season out. New West will be on rt 30 and the Renaissance #2 out of TSwn on rt 1.

I heard the mv Kennicott Last night on the scanner heading up from Bellingham to Alaska and decided to check her sched on the AK Ferry site. Apparently she is replacing mv Columbia and will be on the Bellingham run until November 11. On November 11 the mv Malaspina will take over the Bellingham run and the Kennicott will then go into lay-up after making what appears to be a Not in Service run back to Ketchican. All Passengers are to be transferred to Malaspina on November 11. Service notice here: www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs/service_notices.shtml

Times like this make me think that BCF should and must keep at least one B class ship hanging around untill Spirit ov VI returns from her midlife in Poland. Even though they are smaller in a pinch they can be used as a spare/backup vessel in extreme case of mechanical breakdown on any of the major runs.
The fact is they CAN be used to fill in if needed, though may not be adequate but better than no service.

I rode past Departure Bay on the bus about a hour ago and the Coquitlam is tied up in berth 3. Cowichan of course in service. I would assume when the SBC is done with trials the Coquitlam will head for some time out as per her normal refit.

The Greyhound/Tofino Bus depot in Campbell River has moved. It is now located in Tyee Plaza right across from the Quadra Island Ferry terminal.

I am currently up in Campbell River and hope to have a ride on the PRQ before I go home. I am planning on staying in the area until September if all goes well, is the Bowen Queen going to replace the Powell River Queen this September for refit duties? It would be nice to get a ride on both vessles.

One last set from the museum including the Discovery. I came back to my hotel room in Arlington with one massive smile on my face. To stand next to such historical aircraft was amazing.
