Let's keep it a sticky, so forum members can report their experiences sailing on the CR. A sticky what? (thinking of something icky that is sticky) You know, a thread pinned at the top of the first page of the forum section, like the spiral on a spider web. BTW, CURCON says the 6:10 p.m. sailing out of HSB is now cancelled.
Ding, ding, ding!

And she has now departed Horseshoe Bay, sixteen minutes late. ETA for DB - 8:01...

I expect that this historic image will be repeated nearly every day during the coming summer. The Cowichan is to be the extra vessel on route 2, right?

True, but I was aiming more towards the fact that it was technically the first day of revenue service, although not a full regular day. But fine, way to shoot me down guys.

So what will be considered her maiden voyage? Today's or Saturday's?
I haven't had time to upload photos, but I was a Whytecliff Park and Horseshoe Bay this evening and got lots of photos:) They did load quite a few cars at Horseshoe Bay as well and left around 6:30 or so.

Saturday's 3:00 sailing is considered to be her maiden voyage.
Today's sailing was just to work out a few bugs, and to make sure she is ready to handle being the number one boat out of Departure Bay.

It took her 2 hours and 18 minutes?

Let's hope she doesn't go this slow every time. She needs to be able to make the crossing safely in 95 minutes.

It took her 2 hours and 18 minutes? That's not correct. There's no way that the CR only spent 3 minutes at Horseshoe Bay. It says it left HSB at 626pm, which I'm more inclined to believe as opposed to the arrival time into HSB. On another note, they have added the 4pm sailing out of Departure Bay to their current conditions page. . .presently 2% full. No sign of the 6pm but it'll be well received since the 5pm is presently 92% full!

She arrived at 5:55, so it took her 1:50. She seemed to be going a bit slower than I expected.. waited longer at Whytecliffe than I thought I would.

I was at HSB today and saw her come in and leave. It was the first time I saw her and wow, what a ship. I got some good pics but I don't have a photo site, sorry; just imagine the best pic of the Coastal Renaissance. I haven't gone on her yet, I'll probably have to wait until the Inspiration does the Duke Point run as I never go all the way to HSB since I live close to Tsawassen.

SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 2008 MV COASTAL RENAISSANCE'S FIRST SAILING And I was on board! While I was watching the CR come in to dock, a cameraman from CBUT interviewed me on the ship and my interest in the ferries. It sure was a beautiful day today in Nanaimo. Oh, what's that peaking from behind Newcastle Island? Oh, it's the CR! Hello! She says hello back by opening her bow doors. The debutante in the dock. And here's her very first lineup of vehicles. Say, who's that cool guy with Deb Marshall? The dignitaries cut the ribbon to officially place the CR in service. On board we go! Say hello, guys! The Queen of Cowichan's funnel is at the same height off the water as the CR's sun deck. And awa-a-a-ay we go! The big city beckons! Into Howe Sound we go, as we pass Passage Island. The CR finishes her first regular sailing. These vehicles exit the CR and enter history. And look who I encounter! Greetings, PK! Passing the Oak Bay red-to-red as we return to Departure Bay. And finally, the CR rides off into the sunset. I will remember this day for a long time! ;D

Apparently, there were quite a few ferry freaks on board the CR's maiden sailing, 'cuz I was one of just 41 round-trippers who stayed on board the ship during her turnaround at Horseshoe Bay.
Edit: Oh, my goodness... My face has gone out on television province-wide! CBC News used footage of me talking about the CR in its report on her maiden voyage on its evening newscast tonight! If anyone here has recorded this CBC News story on tape, please post it on YouTube!

I was the 3rd person who won the Travel Package Onboard CR. I did the 10:30 out of HB, then the CR. at 3pm. Greyhound 637 was the 1st onboard for the Initial Voyage, & I was the 1st Walk on from the Car Deck:)

So how many trips did the CR do? CurCon at 2330 showed 3 out of DEP and 2 out of HSB? I was too tired to grab a capture, but CurCon seemed off, as that couldn't be round trips. But it did have CR doing like a late morning run DEP-HSB? Was I hallucinating?
