At the ribbon cutting ceremony I called his name to get his attention. He looked back at me and said hello. I could definitely tell that he had no idea who I was or where I was from.
Then once we all boarded via the overhead walkway, we saw him filming people walking on to the Ferry. Then the group of us sat and had a chat with him. Then he knew right away that we were from this forum.

Perhaps with the CR now in service this monster 118 page thread should be closed and replaced with a 'CR in service' thread.
BTW, I, along with family, car & camera, will be on board the CR for a 3:00 pm crossing of the 'Salish Sea' on March 18th. I will be the guy walking with a limp, and maybe crutches.

Thx Chris, & also Flugel.
As for the CR prior to it starting Service, it showed being out of HB I think at 10:47? I heard on Victoria Traffic Ch 11 a Tug Req to talk to the CR on Marine Ch 10. I switched over to 10, & listened to the Conv. The Tug was just wanting some info on the CR, & I heard the Captain saying they were doing the last of Sea Trials, w/ No Passengers Onboard, & that she goes into Service on the 3pm out of Dep. Bay.
I have also noticed that CR is no longer on the Siitech website. Is there a Reason for this that anyone knows of?
Thx.

Because one of Siitech's AIS base stations stopped working.

A right of passing for any new Rte 2 vessel is for Bowen Islanders to complain about the wake, so we should open a pool on that For years the C Class had to slow down, and then the FastCats for their entire lives!

Well tonight will be a big test for the CR. The 7:00 sailing is sold out. So it will be a full house. Would be very interesting to see how full the ferry feels with at least the car decks full. Maybe not as full as with 200 scouts all over the place ;P.

For those who are interested in discussion of the in-service movements, events and happenings of the in-service ship Coastal-Renaissance, I've set up a new thread in the general-discussion section of the forum. The new thread is easy to find on the general-discussion page. It's one deck taller than the Cowichan's in-service thread. Moderators have been heard to say that " the new thread offers the latest in marine-forum design and technological advancement, state-of-the-art forum safety systems and environmentally sensitive features. These features, along with a commitment to maximizing the forum-member experience, are intended to connect all forum members with the beauty and splendour of the west coast." -------------------- Those who are offended by forum thread-herding practices such as this (and you know that I'm doing this just to torment you... muhahahahaha ), are asked to see the forum's medical-officer for a chill-pill ;D.

This thread was started by Scott, in January 2007.
14 months.
2,941 posts.
Some good times, including a few moments of rapid-fire play-by-play action, during launch, canal-transit and BC arrival.
Some new acquaintances of the forum were made on this thread: - Markus Brinkmann, we salute you. Thanks for keeping us updated, and for sharing some of your life's details with us. - Paul K. (a much admired/respected west-coast travel website creator; that's my opinion of Paul); I'm so happy that he found his way to this forum. - All the others who joined or increased their forum profile, during this thread.
I remember working out-of-town in December, and following the actions of the 'ssance's arrival in BC. This thread provided great coverage for me then, and for other times too.
Bravo to all who participated, and thanks to all those who read and enjoyed the commentary & updates.

With this thread being so long and the CR no longer under construction and in service, Sould this thread be Locked After 118 Pages?

Than after a few years when she isn't as new we might decide to move it to a sub-topic called "Former "New" Ferries".

PK got a question, how do you get to the CR virtual tour? Is there any special URL I must use? Doing the normal way ends me up on the page that has been there since the HB-DP virtual tour page was conceived. For some reason, I can access it from the Cypress Bowl route but not using the main page.

Prompted by Kam in another thread, I was at the RedWise home page and found a short video clip of the CR taking provisions in preparation for its handover voyage. Copy and paste the following URL, then click on the white play arrow. If you cannot get the above link to work, go to the Redwise homepage and look near the middle of the main page, just to the left of the "world map". www.redwise.nl/index.php/home

I am hoping they will add those in sometime soon to the Coastals since that could be an extra 60 cars you can pack onto them. Markus, Dan's comment left me to wonder how long you would estimate it would take to retrofit the platform decks on the Coastals. Is it something you would expect could be completed during the annual refit time-frame, or would you expect it to be a longer installation than that? lol...now remember, we North Americans aren't as efficient, so factor that in! jk, but it is my experience that retrofits always seem to ~twice as long as putting it in during construction ;D

But I don´t think, that these cardecks will be put soon. Nobody ws talking about that anymore.
