Speaking of spare vessels, when will the Klitsa get some action? I have wondered if she would be a help on summer weekends on the Chemainus or Denman routes. I don't know actual service levels on summer weekends for those routes, but would think that a 2nd ferry might come in handy once in a while. Nimpkish is definitely too small for Cortes in the summer. About 60% of the extra runs in the entire BC Ferries system are made on the Denman and Hornby routes, largely due to heavy traffic in the warmer months, but BC Ferries would never pay to crew a second vessel for Denman except in situations like last year when the Quinitsa was out for refit, and two smaller boats filled in. Line ups and waits are just a fact of life in the summer on those two routes. Thetis & Kuper have nowhere near the volume of traffic, and a population of only 700 between them, so a second ferry would never happen there. Klitsa looks to have very little usage in the future.

I think the Kuper is even too big for the Thetis and Kuper runs. Last Thursday I saw the Kuper as we flew over Kuper Island and she was on her way over to Kuper and she was totally empty with no cars on there. And I have seen traffic to Thetis when there has been hardly any either.

Hmmm, I guess we'll see sailing reductions sometime in the future...or perhaps it is time for BC Ferries to move the Kuper to the Denman-Hornby route in exchange for the Kahloke.

Updated as of 6:45AM
Please be advised that the vehicle capacity on the Queen of Burnaby had to be reduced temporarily. Customers are encouraged to car pool or travel as foot passengers.
For updated sailing information, please call toll free 1 888 BCFERRY (1 888 223 3779).
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this.
These service notices are starting to get a bit strange. I guess the platform ramps are stuck...

I remember several years ago the service notices provided a bit more information. For example, if a sailing was cancelled, they would say "due to mechanical problems" or "due to a malfunctioning ramp", etc. Not any more.....it's almost like they like to keep an aura of mystery surrounding service issues. Maybe they figure the public is only interested the which services are being affected and in what way, but not for what reason.

Not technically a BC Ferries service notice, but Route 2 is currently experiencing two-sailing waits on either side. There will be no help from the Cowichan as her extra sailings for the day are all showing as cancelled...

It must be a typing error showing the sailings canceled. Looks like BCF has missed the boat once again on customer service.

However, it can still be used for MD sailings on these days...It appears they ran into a issue to get it crewed for the sailings it was going to do today.

Dont know where else to put this as I cant find the Inspiration thread. I was on the 12:45pm from Tsawwassen and the 3:15pm from Duke Point today on the Inspiration. We left about 30 mins late from Tsawwassen about 20 mins late from Duke Point. Arrived back at Tsawwassen at 5:35pm. I was on the 6pm Celebration going back to Swartz Bay 6:40pm I noticed the Inspiration still hadent left Tsawwassen. I heard earlier when I passed berth 3 on my way to berth 5 I heard the 5:45pm was having mechanical problems. That sailing dident leave till 6:50pm I checked on the CC. The 8:15pm left at 9:05 and the 10:45pm left at 11:15pm which made a late night for the crew. I wonder what was up with the Inspiration yesterday?? They seemed to take forever getting into the dock too! A service notice said she was 69 mins behind schedule.

I'd assume they've remedied the problem, and are taking her for a test run to make sure she still runs ok.

She turned around and is now in port In Prince Rupert
There will be an unscheduled sailing to move the customers from this weekends cancelled sailings departing Prince Rupert Monday August 31st at 09:00 am and returning from Skidegate 4:00 pm.
The Northern Adventure will then resume regular scheduled service on Monday August 31st with a delayed 9:00 pm sailing from Prince Rupert. Customers should check in at 9:30 pm on August 31st for the anticipated departure to Skidegate at midnight.
They seem to be running her on a very tight schedule tomorrow

I have been wondering about how often this happens and what method they use for this: Service Notice - Temporary Vessel Replacement - Skidegate/Alliford Bay Posted Tuesday, September 15, 2009 Note: This Service Notice applies to the following route(s): - Queen Charlotte Islands (Alliford) - Queen Charlotte Islands (Skidegate) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TEMPORARY VESSEL REPLACEMENT October 5 – December 11, 2009 Skidegate – Alliford Bay The MV Kwuna will be removed from service on the Skidegate to Alliford Bay route from Monday, October 5 through Friday, December 11, 2009 for regularly scheduled maintenance. During the refit period a tug-and-barge will provide service with a crossing time of 24 minutes on (a modified) schedule: Please note: during this schedule the final sailing from Skidegate will be 8:00pm. BC Ferries apologizes for any inconvenience caused to our customers by this refit and modified schedule. We look forward to returning the MV Kwuna to service on Saturday, December 12. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Link to Service Notice HERE.This refit was expected to happen, hinted by the information in this POST.Nickfro poses this question: When was the last Kwuna refit? I tried searching the forum for the answer but was unsuccessful. I'm curious to know how long she goes between stoppages.

Nickfro poses this question: When was the last Kwuna refit? I tried searching the forum for the answer but was unsuccessful. I'm curious to know how long she goes between stoppages. I'm not sure when the last refit was, but I'm reasonably certain that it was BEFORE summer 2007. Judging by the expense incurred in bringing her south to Deas/WMG, I don't think it happens as often as the other minor vessels.
