Putting "Pin the tail on the donkey - ferries version" aside for a moment....
Is the JAB looking more or less re-constructed, then?

Three words: Strong Bad Email.
Extreamme, it takes a lot to get me out of my self-imposed quasi-retirement from this board... and you've managed to accomplish the slightly difficult. Please, for the benefit of all mankind, I urge you to use at least some semblance of proper grammar and spelling when posting here. Otherwise, I might go into a rant...
On topic, I cannot help but be reminded of the Howe Sound Queen's conversion when looking at these photos. (I figure I should justify my possible flame/troll/jab/father/mother/lady/child by at least mentioning the topic)

Please re-think your retirement plans, Mr Fenklebaum. Your posts are always food for thought.
You should be aware, as well, that the Ferries of BC Discussion Pension Plan doesn't kick in until something like 8000 posts, so if you retire now, you'll have to keep working in False Creek.

The hull 259 is what they are calling her until day ready for service or launch. The rumour has it the word "comox" will be in her name. She is scheduled for launch into the water on November 3rd. I have confirmed this date with one of the project managers. News on the Tachek, she is delayed will going in the water at Vancouver Shipyard about 8 am of Oct. 23rd and sea trails set for that Friday. Should be in service on 28th at Hornby. A week behide schedule due poor planning by DPMI. Thanks blackshadow, we're always looking for specific dates, and you've got our mouths watering, wanting more. The November 3rd launch-date is actually a change from David Hahn's speech at the recent Annual General Meeting of BCFS. At about the 2.30 mark in this clip that I recorded from the meeting, Hahn starts talking about the former J.A.B., and mentions that they hope to have her in-service by January, but with a launch set for late December. I'm guessing that they either found a pressing need to launch her sooner, found some extra money to do so, or Hahn was simply mis-quoting the timeline (which wouldn't be a surprise considering a couple other mix-ups mady by him during his speech, such as the Surrey being the 3rd C to have an MLU when it's actually the 4th)... ...Although I wonder how unintentional some of these slips of the toung are, as Hahn quoted the rebuilds of berth 2 at both Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay as costing the same, when the CFO later in the meeting quotes the obvious that the Swartz Bay rebuild was significantly more expensive.

If the ships in the water for November, having her in service for mid-Juanuary seems about right?

Well could you maybe get them up soon? Curtis, are you naturally impatient, or are you just kidding around here? (this reply is motivated by your seeming demanding tone, and by similar "I want it now" stuff from Coastal Insanity recently). While I myself do not have a life, I'm sure that others do, and that their lives may get in the way of quick service here. Just my snotty comment of the day. No strong offense intended. ;D

Probably the only times I'm impatient on this board is when somebody is going to post something cool and it takes awhile. Like these pics of the Burr for Example.

I drove over the Second Narrows again tonight, and of course did my usual glance at the JAB. She's a white Ferry now, but clearly it only has the first coat of paint.

The Burr should be sliding in the water about 3pm on November 3rd for those who are not working and have camera.
The Tachek is on schedule for sea trails on Friday. If those who have camera and can wait, some time Friday afternoon is will be in Horseshoe Bay to load vehicles for Hornby. If all goes well should see her in service at Hornby on Saturday first sailing.
I heard rumours from DPMI crew, that all the new vessels, intermediate and C's on all ahead of schedule by about a month. They said the Sonia will be here in Victoria by end of this year.

Thanks for the update, blackshadow.
Do you know if the dyke along the mouth of the Seymour River will be closed that day? Seeming that dyke is parallel to the launch, I'm wondering if the Allied Shipbuilders close off that dyke, just in case the tugs don't manage to catch the Ferry in time, or if the Ferry creates a mini tidal wave, which swamps the dyke.
I have a class at 3pm on November 3rd. It's a Friday anyway, so I'll play hookey that day. Also, I'll have to make a slight adjustment to my work schedule too....
Who's with me on attending this event? Not very many opportunites that we'll get to experience a Ferry launch in the next couple of years.

I don't know many details for the launch of the Burr, just what I wrote.
Tachek will load ship's crew vehicles at Horseshoe Bay Friday as Vanship doesn't have loading ramps. Most of crew vehicles are those of the refit crew whom be on her since 5th of September and engineer since early july.

oops my mistake I should say for HOrnby from Horseshoe Bay? My guess is that it's the Tachek's Hornby crew members' vehicles that will be loaded at HorseshoeBay. Presumably, need to drive down to Lower Mainland, so that they can be onboard to sail her back up to Lambert Channel. They would have drove down in their private vehicles (plus 3 ferry trips).....and now they take themselves and their VW-vans home with them. (having now just read BlackShadow's reply......just see what he said).

I doubt that the Hornby crew would have come down to Vancouver, as there's still the Kahloke to operate. If there's any vehicles on board, I would imagine that's the crew that is delivering the Tachek to Hornby, and they will then be driving back. Just my guess.

Just my guess. there is more than one crew for each route. would likely be the refit crew as blackshadow said, taking their cars back with them. they come down to do the refit. i believe this includes the senior engineer from the vessel and a captain. as there is no passengers on board you don't need too many people to sail her back to hornby

hmm, I am tempted to phone in sick to work on Friday if I am scheduled to work so I can make it over to see the JAB launch. Where can you view the launch from?? I'll talk to you more about it Chris, maybe we can meet up, and I have a feeling Graham will be there too. I have never seen a ferry launch before so this would be cool to see!
Sonia in Victoria the end of the year. Hopefully they will have a specific date of her arrival. Would be cool to see!
