No Pr Queen - I was not insuling Strong Skier - it's called "micking taking" an english expression. I may have been "baiting him a little" as he doesn't like snowboarders.
Harry - your last train picture - that was taken at King Cross - end platform - Think No. 14.
Strong Skier - nice to hear about a few young Brit's learning to ski in BC - as most people here go to the French or Swiss or Italian Alps and ski. There is only one slope in the UK and that's up North in Scotland. A bit hit & miss on snow fall - as it is very low level.
We do have a few "SnowDomes" in the UK - limited runs. There are a lot of the outdoors - artificial - slopes - that have things called "Snowflex". Good to learn on - is lub'ed by water - and works well on short ski's. A lot of school's here take there students there first - for a few leason - then on the school trip to the Alps for real snow.
The UK is geting more into extreme sports stuff - and a few new centres are opening up. You have to remember here in the UK - it is all about Football - rugby and cricket, which is what schools play here.

Some years Grouse's snowfall can be hit and miss, and sometimes, like in 98-99, it can be too much. That year grouse had 11 meters of snow on the ground, They had to dig out the chairlifts, and they were open until July 1st, which usually unheard of. Grouse is usually closed by now, but they got alot of snow in the last couple of weeks and it looks like they could be open into May, which is surprising considering how bad the season was earlier in the year.

When I went to UBC - we used to do the night run down Grouse - with flares. Does the "Grouse Nest" - still go around - resturant ? I haven't skied Grouse for about 20 years now.
I hope you understand I wasn't insulting you - only taking the piss (English expression again)

Cascade, there is no platform 14 at kings cross! The platforms are 1 to 11, 1-8 having being for the high speed trains, 9-11 is the surburban trains.

They have the Grouse Grind Coffee Bar, Lupins Cafe, Altitudes Bistro, and for fine dining, they have The Observatory. Grouse has obviously changes a lot since you were there last. They now have summer activities.

Strong Skier - there should be some pictures of people sking down with flares. We would use white, yellow, red, and some times blue flares
We used to do it around Christmas time - Friday night - around 100 skiers in a chain - lot's of pictures where taken - One time the Vanouver Sun ran a front page on this. This was around 1975 -76 while I was at UBC - but they were doing it a few years before that.

First of all I have an important lesson to the younger members of this forum. WEAR A HELMET! when you're skateboarding, biking, and even skiing or boarding.
Kurt is one of my closest friends, I've known him for 12 years. On Thursday evening, He was skateboarding down a long hill without a helmet and he wiped out and split his head open. I did not witness this happening. I was told yesterday morning at school. Kurt is also very popular and well known throughout the school. The last day has been very stressful for me and many others. Upon arrival at LGH, he had a 12% chance of surviving. Since then his condtion has vastly improved, he is now in stable condition as of last night.

Maybe they need to make more stylish headgear so the teenagers will actually WEAR THEM

Maybe, and perhaps this will be a lesson to all the kids at Handsworth who don't wear helmets.

Yeah, I must say too, poor guy. Hopefully he will recover. There was a car accident on our road last night that killed two 20 year old, male and female. First Nations people, but speed alcohol were a factor. I dont know why people just dont get it. You drink, you dont drive. Look what happens. People dont wear helmets when biking skiing, ect, you get hurt. Another accident on highway 18 to Lake Cowichan, a 14 year old male. No one wearing seatbelts, on a major highway where the speed limit is like 100 along there. It's rediculas!

I have seen videos in highschool about what can happen if you drink and drive. And I can say to that group of people it was really emotional as everyone was crying after the video.
