That's awesome! I might have to take a trip over there too, is that also an employee and visitor parking lot? Thank you! This is still the BC Ferries employee and contractor parking lot. Oh ok, do you park somewhere else and then walk over there? Just wondering where we would park without breaking any rules.

It is just an empty parking lot, I think it should be allowed to park there because it says visitors as well. There is a sign next to the entrance that shows the rules

I'll be sure to share photos if I go out there.

Queen of Burnaby at Deas Dock, today
Looks like there's been recent activity onboard since I last saw it a month ago. Railings around the bow in front of the bow doors, and a hole in the bow door itself...

If memory serves me correctly, this is the first time I've seen a "doorwway" cut into the bow doors of any decommissioned BC Ferry vessel ever moored at this location within the Deas facility. Hmmm

Took a visit to see the Queen of Burnaby at Deas Dock yesterday! This is pretty neat, the old expo theme is re-emerging on the Queen of Burnaby due to the white paint chipping off. You can see the red/yellow/blue paint on the side of the ship, that was the BC Flag, and the red above is the former red stripe along the sides of the ship. Thanks to Ollie for letting me know how to visit the Queen of Burnaby! Queen of Burnaby Expo Theme Re-emerging by Vancouver Island Hiking, on Flickr

Here's the rest of my photos from my visit to the Queen of Burnaby Did you get onboard at all and is there any way of entry to get onboard? Unfortunately there is not a way to get onto the ship. Any entrances onto the ship are on private property and limited to BC Ferries employees/contractors. It would be really awesome if there's an opportunity to go onboard some day, but I don't think that will happen due to the shape the ship is in. It's still really cool to go see the outside of the ship, especially since it's literally right beside the gate of a parking lot.

I mean you do got a point as I imagine the interior conditions would probably kill someone

Although it might not be as bad as I think it is, I doubt its anywhere near Queen of Sidney level.

True I imagine the worst part would most likely be the coastal cafe and the upper lounge I doubt that conditions on board that ship are as bad as you imagine. The Seven Sisters (V & B class vessels) were all given suspended ceilings at the time they were stretched. I can believe that in areas of the Burnaby the suspended ceiling have collapsed. Water infiltration can cause that. I am fairly sure its is not imminently dangerous in the ships interior, but wearing a respirator & hardhat is probably warranted.

True the only reason I would have thought of it being bad in the café was due to the door into the cafe being wide open and considering its carpet inside it that would get wet from the snow melting then become moldy.

Also why did they cut into the starboard bow door? Is it a sign that Ensenada is on the way?.

Also why did they cut into the starboard bow door? Is it a sign that Ensenada is on the way?. When we were there, we noticed there is a small platform below the bow (possibly a welding platform of some sort) where it looks like some work is being done. I believe there is a ladder that goes up to the bow doors where the hole is. I'm not sure why they don't just have the doors open though, maybe something to do with weather-proofing but I am not sure. Maybe the doors wouldn't no longer open so they just decided to cut a hole.

When you say weatherproofing what would they be doing to weatherproof her?

I was thinking they would be using the hole cut in the door to enter the ship instead of leaving the bay doors open all the time, if that could somehow cause issues for the ship, but I don't think that's the case because it's already in rough condition.

I have a feeling the bay doors weren't opening, so they cut a hole in the door. Just a suspicion.

The bow doors were welded shut a long time ago. Plus, she hasn't been hooked up to shore power in a few years now either and her generators were removed shortly after retirement. The bow doors would require electricity to run, and the manual hand pump/back up system is painfully slow to operate anyways

Did Queen of Burnaby move? Marinetraffic is now showing Bowen Queen (“A”) in Queen of Burnaby’s place, and not in the corner. Or maybe it is just a Marinetraffic error.

Maybe it is a glitch, because for me, Marine Traffic isn't working at all right now. No vessels, even after restarting my computer, which I've not encountered before. Typing in Bowen Queen shows her between Orcas and San Juan Islands.
