Tachek is rust bucket on port side of vessel. I am posting these photos of Tachek because we don't many photos of her in Whaletown. There are a few streaks of rust from areas where you would expect them on a fifty year old vessel. Hardly indicative of a 'rustbucket'. Compared to the Starboard side, the Port Side has a lot rust which seems like it could use touch up of paint.

Rust bucket, I think the NIP was at times the rust bucket of the seas...… sorry I don't have pictures to back it but im sure many on here would have some on her worst without make-up days.

Just curious is the Tachek out for the summer?? Is the QQ2 the summer boat for the Cortez run??? I see the Tachek is at Buckley Bay right now. I was wondering cause I might try and get back to Quadra and it would be cool to get a ride on the QQ2 if she is still there the BC Day weekend.

I think BC Ferries is switching Quadra Queen II and Tachek will every other summer. I really don’t think there that much of difference between the two vessels except Tachek is a hybrid vessel.

When did Tachek get her storm gate removed?

When was last time Tachek served route 5? I am asking because the photo in link says March 2000 wouldn’t be Bowen Queen to fill in on route 5 around this time. A Flickr member named John Law posted a photo of the Tachek @ Swartz Bay identified as being from May of 2000. I have a copy of that photo in my digital collection, but I can not find it again online at Flickr.

A quick look at my schedules shows that in the spring of 1999, Mayne Queen and Queen of Cumberland were the main vessels serving route 5, with some supplementary sailings being done by a third vessel. I'm guessing that third vessel was the Tachek, around that time.

She must be fun to sail on route 5 due her lack capacity for the route. I suspect that it would be, just the same as when the Bowen Queen did supplementary summer service on route 9. I never was lucky enough to have done that, but I understand that it was 'fun'.

The Tachek also served on Route 9a briefly in the summer of 2007. With a bit of research through our archives, it was due to the Bowen Queen being stuck on Route 6 who was then filling in for the Howe Sound Queen, which was delayed coming out of refit. ferriesbc.proboards.com/thread/5292/tachek-route-9a?page=1

On my recent trip to ride the Powell River Queen, I also got a ride in on the Tachek. I decided to drive on in hopes of exploring Cortes Island - big mistake. I didn't realize that the day prior to this sailing was BC Day. Combine the extra holiday traffic with Tuesday's canceled sailings for dangerous cargo, and I ended up spending most of the day waiting in ferry lines and very little time exploring Cortes, as I didn't want to be stuck on the island overnight. However, spending some time at the terminal did afford me the opportunity to get some shots of the Tachek at Cortes, which I previously haven't had the chance to do. Here's the little MV "ek" spinning off Cortes Island on her 1:45 run back to Heriot Bay, as seen from the public dock at the end of Whaletown Rd. Head-on view Sailing back to Quadra Island on its return "dangerous cargo" run A couple hours later, the boat is back from Heriot Bay. We had heard some rumblings to the effect that the Quadra Queen II would be taking over on this sailing, supported by the boat's tracker showing it leaving Saltery Bay and heading north that morning. Even the reader-board at the terminal showed that the sailing was supposed to be on QQII. Something must have changed, as the boat went to Buckley Bay instead. At any rate, I was just happy to make it onto the 3:45 sailing instead of the 5:45! On final approach to the tiny Whaletown berth I always enjoy traveling on this little boat, especially on Route 24! I hope to return sometime soon and more properly explore Cortes Island on a day with calmer traffic, as the area is quite beautiful!

While enjoying a recent vacation trip at Quadra Island, I got back into the fine-art of ferry videography:
"Views of BC Ferries ship Tachek, working the Quadra Island to/from Cortes Island route. This is seen by me from Taku Resort & Marina at Drew Harbour on Quadra Island. October 4, 5 and 6, 2022."

Tachek is on sea trials out of Powell River. It looks like Tachek will be coming back in service on Cortes Island route.

MV Tachek nearing Heriot Bay, Quadra Island - seen from the nearby Taku Resort. Considering that she recently came back from refit she's looking a bit scruffy. She is missing most of her name on the forward end of the starboard side, and part of the 'T' is missing on the port side seen here. Are these vessel names actually decals? Another shot of Tachek, this time taken at the other end of the run on Cortes Island. I have confirmed that the name tags on this boat (see my post from two days ago) are actually decals, and they have peeled or are peeling off. Are they decals on all the vessels?

31 May 2023 Thanks for this photo, and the others too, from Taku. (rhyme is intentional) After an absence of a few years, we returned to Taku in October 2022, enjoying a cabin stay for a few nights. I love the daily rhythm of the Cortes ferry, giving a sense of time to an otherwise clock-free atmosphere at that resort
