Has the Cumberland had her MLU? If not, this would be a good time to get rid of the platforms and get the gallery decks like her sister.

A lot can change between now and then. What does a 'shuttle class' look like? An 'Island Class' on steroids?

Re-configuring the Cumberland's car deck capacity (to be the same or similar to its sister) is a good idea & ought to happen. It does not matter that she already had an 'MLU'. She can have another. They could call it a 60% life upgrade (SLU) or just simply another 'AB'.

Most people want to see her go, her hull vibrations and slow speed, as well as the ramp issues date back to the 90s in the design phase. Ive even heard crew members joke about accidently sinking her (just a joke though). I would be quite suprised if she got another upgrade, in all honesty it would actually make more sense to refit the Mayne Queen and retire the Queen of Cumberland than the other way around, granted you would lose some of the vehicle capacity.

I think that would have been much better to keep and refit Mayne Queen. I don't remember a single time in the summer of 2022 when the Cumberland was on time. I still much prefer the Cumberland over the Salishes though, it has much more character.

I see, I can understand why you pefer the Cumberland over the Salishes, theres probably a thousand reasons why one is better than the other and vice versa, they both have their strengths and weaknesses. For example the Queen of Cumberland has manual doors that actually work whereas the Salish boats have automatic doors that often dont work.

When is the Cumberland getting its next refit? Now that there's no more Bowen Queen or Mayne Queen I'm interested to see what replaces it.

Do they do route 5 with only 1 vessel during refit periods?

What about when a Salish Class gets a refit? Do they also just get replaced with a Salish Class? There are four Salish class vessels for three routes. Only one vessel is serving routes 9/9A at slower times of the year thus freeing up one vessel for refits on other routes such as has just occurred with the Heron replacing the Orca. My understanding is that one Salish class will be used to cover for refits of the other three Salish class vessels and also perhaps other vessels like Malaspina Sky. I think that should all work out okay except if their are lengthy outages occurring among this class of vessel, such as we are seeing currently with the Coastal class troubles having a significant impact on refits for other major vessels.

That makes sense now, I guess they just take one of the route 9 Salish Class and put them on another route like how there was only one Queen of Nanaimo for route 9.

There are two Salish class vessels working route 9/9A from about the May long weekend through to maybe Thanksgiving. They might also have two boats in service at other busy times such as over the Christmas holidays. For the remainder of the year the second vessel (currently the Heron) is available for other assignments.
