Last Saturday, the Skeena Queen made history as being the first BC Ferry to provide a bicycle only sailing. Here's what it was like.

Something weird happened today. I was on the deck of the C. Celebration waiting to disembark. The Skeena Queen came in to the berth beside us (I think it was berth 3, but I'm not sure.) I couldn't see very well, but the SQ was coming in quite fast, and then I heard a loud metallic bang. I think she may have taken a bit of a hard landing, but ten minutes later she was loading normally.

The port side wingwall is wood and the starboard side wingwall is steel. That steel wingwall is notorious for sounding a little over dramatic when the ship comes into contact with it. It all sort of depends, but if loading operations were normal, then it wasn't a hard landing.

Another question: - how did you get such an old photo of Swartz Bay? - did you take this photo? How long ago? ....or are those your little hands shown in the bottom-right of the photo?

Skeena Queen in dock at Fulford Harbour at 05:30 before the first run of the day. No passengers aboard, and main engines silent.

Do you have a shore power hookup at Fulford or does the SQ need a generator running to keep the lights on?

Do you have a shore power hookup at Fulford or does the SQ need a generator running to keep the lights on? Yup, there's shore power at Fulford Harbour, and same with Vesuvius and Long Harbour. The generators typically get a break every night at least. There are even provisions of having the ships power run the ramp if there's ever a power outage. This is pretty common in Fulford in the winter, as well as the rest of the Gulf Islands. Here's a photo from nearly two years ago with the power out at Fulford due to a Snowstorm. The ship is plugged into shore to power the ramp which is what's powering those lights as well. I love this shot. Did you use a tripod, or was it the "stand really still, and breathe out slowly" method of keeping the camera steady? Thank you Mr. Horn. This was a lucky shot, and I didn't have a tripod on me. It was a quick hope for the best, and try to move as little as possible. This was the only shot I took, and the it was only about a 1 second shutter.

The keen little Skeena Queen running on schedule as always 1... 1: I have no facts prepared to back up this statement.

Skeena Queen, with a double dose of spookiness. - Skeena in Swartz Bay's berth-4. - SoVI in berth-3. - SoBC arriving November 10, 2012, from a video capture.

Which boat replaces the Skeena when she's in refit? My guess would be the Q-cumber or the Bowen but I'm not so sure.
