Propulsion system issues on the Raven this morning. Just wonderful. I was chatting with a crewmember who works the Comox-PR run and he says the Salish ships are major pieces of junk. Apparently the elevator on the one on that run is broken again, and the ramps for the garage deck are very problematic. Terrible ships, he says.

I don't know if the other Salish's are the same, but things you can count on on the Orca (based on my weekly trips):
1 of the 4 deck ramps being out of service 1 of the 2 elevators being out of service Minimum 1 set of the 4 outside deck doors being out of service 1 of the 4 stairways being out of service 1 frustrated engineering team wandering around the vessel looking exasperated.

Does BCFS have any recourse vis-à-vis the 'warranty provisions', if there are such 'guarantees'? To have issues with the entire batch of Salish vessels is troubling. One would wonder if BCFS should look long and hard about awarding future contracts to this particular Polish ship builder. Hopefully they can complete the MLU on the 'SOVI' properly and get her back to us on schedule. Will the folks at Damen shipyards deliver vessels of better quality?

I think the Island Class vessels built by Deman may have way worst problems because M/V Veteran and M/V Legionnaire are having bow thrust which is causing Newfoundland and Labrador Ferries cancelling some trips. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/port-thruster-mv-veteran-legionnaire-october-2017-1.4375849

The news about those two vessels is less than encouraging I'd say.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but why is the Raven the only Salish boat the has to refuel Wednesday nights in Swartz Bay??? The Eagle if I am correct never did and same with the Orca so I am just curious as to why the Raven has to.

Salish Raven from back in early February during the snow. All Photos are © CS16 Photography and may only be used with Permission from the Owner.
While loading in Westview.
We'd just received a fresh dusting of snow, it was lightly falling when I got there, but it was starting to turn to rain.
From the Sea Walk.
And from the side of the highway with the NIP in view.
Away from Westview.
Finally, the view towards Texada. Left of centre you can see Powell River's new Coast Guard Station nearing completion.
That's all for now.

Here are some early photos I came across. First Photo is Salish Eagle departing Tsawwassen in first few weeks of service. Second photo is Salish Raven in Active Pass also in first few weeks of service. Enjoy! Attachments:

Back in August I had my chance to ride the Salish Raven for the first time from Pender Island up to Vancouver and was parked down on the garage deck. Only 6 cars from Pender to Vancouver ended up down there (myself included) and the other half of the garage deck was full with cars from Salt Spring and the rest of the Pender cars completely filled up the main deck. Of the 3 Salish boats, the Raven is probably my least favorite; the wrap looks too much like something that belongs on the Orca and not the Raven in my opinion, but a nice ship nonetheless.

Anyone noticed Raven replacing Orca today? Orca was having ramp issues. With that being said, hopefully Raven will be doing her usual schedule starting next week. With 0 space on the Orca for the next 7 days Raven is badly badly badly needed.

Before my birthday in July 2017 I did not have a photo camera, I had never taken pictures before at the time. My nana gave me a small medium grade pocket camera, in July 2019 for my birthday I got a Nikon D7000 to replace the pocket camera if that makes sense. In other words I did not take pictures of BC Ferries before August 3rd 2017, and I had no interest in BC Ferries before January of 2015, after one Youtube video about BC Ferries in January 2015, after that one video I was instantly hooked, and now I know everything.

Salish Raven is at Esquimalt Graving Yard. Her next assignment seems like it will be on route 5 to retire the Mayne Queen.

Salish Raven is at Esquimalt Graving Yard. Her next assignment seems like it will be on route 5 to retire the Mayne Queen. When will it retire the Mayne Queen? I thought the Salish Heron would retire the Mayne Queen, not the Salish Raven. The Salish class are interchangable with each other, so while the vessel that appears on the run that Mayne Queen previously performed may not be its direct replacement, its place and capacity within the fleet is replaced by the newly-arrive Salish Heron. Same situation as when Howe Sound Queen retired; its replacement vessel was Island Aurora, and through a series of vessel movements, allowed for Howe Sound Queen to be removed from route 6 without its official "replacement" actually appearing on the route it previously occupied. Blue Bus Fan is referring to the trip booking software, which lists Salish Raven on route 5. It's quite possible that, at least in the early years, Salish Heron will enter into service on route 9A in the spring when the second vessel is required on the route, and Salish Raven will enter service on route 5 following completion of its annual refit (or perhaps once all of the Salish sisters have completed their refits). Of course, that's assuming things go according to plan, and there are no delays in the delivery, acceptance, certification, and training... Another possible option could include Salish Raven entering service early on route 5 for some in-service crew training, and will get swapped out for Salish Heron once route 9A starts up. As one of my former professors used to quote, "Predictions are hard, especially about the future". We won't be certain about the series of vessel movements until they actually occur.

Does anyone know why the Salish Raven appears to be taking the summer off? BC Ferries said they didn't have the staff to operate a Salish class vessel out of Swartz Bay, hence, the Mayne Queen is still running.
