La Niña is making her First Attack in South Nanaimo Right Now. I looked out the Window at the Rainy Scene and saw some white fluffy flakes falling from the sky.

She's looking great. I approve of the Windows on her new bridge, unlike the Q-Barges/Kuper. Port side, from across the water at Capital Iron: Is it me, or does she look like the Carrier Princess from this Angle?

Perhaps, you're right, Brett. Considering nobody is allowed on the Car Deck on Route 7, where she acts as a double-ender, I'd call it a plausible theory. She really only needs that Watertight door in rough seas.

It's a real shame they have to go like this. I wish there was a way to save them. BCFS is going to be building the Denman Cable Ferry, why couldn't they just slice and dice pieces the Klatawa and Kulleet together to make a brand new vessel? Might be a worthwhile investment in theory, but I'm sure there are some flaws to it.

Interesting development. It would be a fitting vessel to be named Northern Discovery IMO. She could also easily handle Route 17 in the Winter so the Burnaby can go and replace the Nanaimo...or better yet, she could actually replace the Nanaimo. People might be annoyed about her having an open deck during a storm though. I'd love to see this happen, and not just because the Chilliwack would be gone like some people are probably thinking. (you know who you are)

My username for the first few years here was "PR Queen Kid 16." Though my name could have been Burnaby 16, Capilano 16 or something along those lines. I decided on the Powell River Queen for my name as I am from Powell River and at the time in 2004 had taken a ride on the PRQ for the first time. While the Kid part is pretty self explanatory, the 16 was basically just my favourite number being the day I was born (June 16th)
A year to a year-and-a-half or so later, I changed up my name slightly to "PR Ferries Teen 16." to match a website I was trying to make called Powell River Ferries. It was pretty much just a ripoff of John H's Ferry Terminal site though. (hey, we're all young and don't know about plagiarism yet right?) For the time between 2006 and 2007, I would mix it up a bit with "PR Coastal Teen 16" & "PR Northern Teen 16." (to match the Ferries with that name scheme)
Finally though in September 2007, I settled with "Ship-Rider 16" to match my new site which you can access by clicking my sig pic, "The Ship-Rider's Guide to Powell River Ferries." At the time of my Forum anniversary in September though, I occasionally change my name back to the original "PR Queen Kid 16" which still graces my username every time I log in.

Just thought I'd put this out there for people who haven't been on the Inspiration in the last week. Due to a malfunction with her #2 End doors at some point last week, she was rotated 180 degrees and placed #1 end in at Duke Point to get all vehicle traffic off...backwards. Since this happened, the CI has not changed back to her normal position and she most likely won't because I have heard that having her #1 End facing Duke Point is what the crew wanted from the start. This will be an easy adjustment for Route 1 regulars as the #2 End of the C-Cel does face Tsawwassen
For quick reference, her #1 End is the Sitka Coffee Bar/SeaWest Lounge area (Pacific Buffet on the C-Cel), her #2 End is the Coastal Cafe which did face Duke Point up until recently.

Did not see that coming. The question is, who will replace him? I don't really care who does, but what I am afraid of is...Who Will be Premier in 2013? I don't even want to think about it. I'm sure I know what Carole James is thinking right now. (*shudders)

Or if you're planning on working on ships anyways, you could do what I did. Pay $600 to Industry Canada for a 3 day course for the ROC-MC ticket (Restricted Operators Certificate - Maritime Commercial). Probably one of the most boring classes I've ever sat through, next to First Aid ;D. You don't even get to use any actual radios, but instead you use simulated ones on a computer for your practical exam. LOL, pretty much what Chris said. I can't say I totally learned enough from that but hey, I'm qualified for it. (guess it's "restricted" for a reason) All you really have to remember is how to make emergency calls. (in a boring mono-tone voice) "Mayday, Mayday, Mayday. This is the Voyager, The Voyager, The Voyager.

Here's my view on what BCF should replace the vessels without replacements with. NIP: A New Texada Landmark...or in this Case a Seamark. A 60 Car 350 Passenger Vessel. Either an Open Deck, Raised Bow Single Ender similar to the NIP or a Fully Enclosed Flat Decked Double Ender. Sadly, the Catamaran Hull will not live on. (Possible Names: MV Texada, MV Van Anda, MV Harwood) Queen of Burnaby: A 180 Car, 800 Passenger Vessel, Without Platform Decks. If Single Ended, she will look like a modernized Queen of Burnaby. If enclosed, a modernized fully enclosed version of a WSF Jumbo or Jumbo Mk II. (Possible Names: MV Strait Crosser, MV Courtenay, MV Savary, MV Lund) Queen of Nanaimo: Same Design as the Burnaby, but with Platform or Gallery Decks depending on design. This bringing her Capacity to 220 Cars, and 1000 Passengers. (Possible Names: MV Strait Connector, MV Island Hopper, MV Saltspring, MV Ganges) Queen of Chilliwack/Nimpkish (Northern Discovery):If Year-Round: A Small NorEx vessel. 70 Cars and 450 Passengers. If Seasonal: A Sleeker, Double Ended Version of the Chilliwack. She will have deployable Platform Ramps for her Southern Assignments bringing her capacity to 100 Cars. This may make a Two Vessel Powell River-Texada-Comox Triangle Route Possible when the Burnaby's replacement is unavailable replacing the Nanaimo's replacement. Plus, with a 70 or 100 car capacity, she would be able to replace vessels on other southern routes. Not just Routes 7 and 17. Powell River & Howe Sound Queen: Two Skeena Queen Style Vessels, 100 Cars and 450 Passengers. (Possible Names: MV Crofton, MV Campbell River, MV Quadra, MV Columbia Queen or MV Fraser Queen ) Bowen and Mayne Queen: Two Island Sky Style Vessels, 125 Cars and 462 Passengers. (Possible Names: MV Island Sun, MV Island Wind, MV Island Star, MV Island Rain MV Island Cloud) One of these 4 would replace the Capilano out of HSB-Bowen making the Cap, the new "Bowen Queen."

So with the retirement information given. -5 People (including Myself) guessed the Mill Bay would be first. 1 Person guessed Tenaka getting 2nd. and the nearly dozen NIP voters are 3rd.
I may not have said it on the forum but I so called the Mill Bay being replaced by the Klitsa when I voted. I figured it was imminent, but all I was wondering was when?

You also have to note that Little River might be due for an upgrade in the near future too. So in a way, Buckley Bay may be the only option for continuing service considering it is close to Comox for crew. Take this with a grain of salt, but don't take my word for it, for all we know this could be complete rubbish. It does bring to light how they would continue Route 17 service during berth upgrades though.

Word has been swirling around Powell River that Westview Terminal is due for upgrades soon. When this does happen, Saltery Bay will turn into a three route operation running Routes 7, 17, and 18. What is interesting though, is that when this happens, the word is that the Burnaby won't run to Little River. Instead, she will run toward the south end of Texada, turn to open water from there and dock at of all places, Buckley Bay.
Now this is enough to cause discussion all on its own but the thing that gets me is that it is almost more worth it for BCFS to run the Burnaby from Saltery Bay to Departure Bay. She could easily utilize Berth 1 at Departure Bay if there is no vessel occupying the berth already. The only side effects might be that Route 17 commercial traffic would be diverted, issues would be present at Departure Bay during high congestion periods, and of course, the biggest factor stopping it, Crewing. Though you must admit, it would be nice to have this happen.

It might be a reasonable investment to have the Cap in the Gulf Islands with Platforms installed...we just need to either build a new Route 7 Vessel to redeploy the I-Sky to Bowen or just build a 2nd I-Sky for Bowen.

Is Gravelly Bay the last of the old-fashioned wooden berths left in BC Ferries fleet of berths? I think that the berths at Shingle Spit, Denman West and the secondary berths at Saltery Bay and Earls Cove beg to differ. Not to mention Berth 1 at Tsawwassen.

Or perhaps Burnbaby refers to her being the last of the Seven Sisters. ;D Least it's better than Que O Bunaby. I actually put that through a Spanish translator, "Que o" means "Than or" according to it. Meanwhile the "Bunaby" part can be whatever you want it to mean.
