Yesterday the Quinitsa had very successful builder's sea trials and will be setting sail again on Monday. It is believed going up the English Bay and possiblily meeting the new comer to the fleet for photos. (Quinitsa maybe welcoming Island Sky to the fleet if Island Sky can make her target schedule.) This only rumours at this time but fact is Quinitsa will be on BCFS sea trials/crew training. If all goes as planned Quinitsa will be spotted at route 21 on Saturday 21st doing training sailings.
I am still waiting to see first photos.

well... the Qunitas isn't suppose to be done till june 20th so that would mean the kahloke and klitsa both would remain on the Vancouver Island - Denman route and the Tachek would stay on the Denman - hornby route. So my guess is maybe Nimpkish. IF they can do the switches quick enough then you have a chance to be on the Tachek.

though the QQ2's refit looks to be a long one, about 2 and a half months, till the end of August.

the Kahloke also has a rather long refit coming at the end of September but that might be due to the fact she doesn't have to do winters on the Kuper's new route.

Looks like it's the Tachek heading up north at this moment so I suppose she'll be replacing the QQ2 starting Monday? I guess that also means that the Tachek won't be filling in on route 9A this summer.

Where is the Nimpkish she isn't showing up on Siitech She is running on the North Coast. She's actually sitting beside the dock at Blubber Bay. Her GPS is just turned off along with everything else.

Does anyone have photos of what the Quinitsa looks like now after her refit?

She looks no different from what she looked like before she went into refit. If anything, she looks like she just recieved a fresh coat of paint. All upgrades were mostly done inside I believe. Her interior has also been Coastalized from what I could tell when I was peeking through the Fence at Deas last weekend.

Apparently, she has had new generators, main engines, RADs, lots of new steel for her decks, and a general "sprucing up". I would assume she has been coastalized as well. Supposedly, over 7 million was spent on her this time around.

Would they run the Nimpkish on route 9A if the Powell River Queen was still in refit and the Bowen Queen couldn't make it?

Would they run the Nimpkish on route 9A if the Powell River Queen was still in refit and the Bowen Queen couldn't make it? They could, it is very possible. I believe the Nimpkish has the correct certifications, however, I would say the only reason why they would not do that is because the Nimpkish would make hardly a dent in the Route 9 lineup at Tsawwassen. But, it is possible, and a good thought John. BCFS is hopefully thinking along the same creative lines.

Or if you would like to, give the scheduling department a headache by running the Nimpkish dedicated to Saturna to Mayne and have crew from Swartz Bay. Allow for more space on the Route 5 vessels for through fare users and a bit more frequency to Pender, Mayne, and Galiano.

Given the low capacity (16 cars, 133 passengers) and the longer length of Route 9, I don't think it makes sense to put the Nimpkish on this run. It is best suited to shorter distance/volume runs (supplementary service on norther Gulf Islands for eg).

re Quadra Queen II refit:
It's being done at Point Hope Shipyard in Victoria. We learned that while Karl & I were on the Tachek today, on a joyride between Port McNeill and Alert Bay.

I remember seeing the QQII there a number of years ago (I'd say about 6-7 years ago) for multiple months. That must be a regular place for her during longer refit periods.

Regarding the Queen of New Westminster's ongoing MLU:
A couple months ago when the QNW was parked along side the drydock in NVan, I took my binoculars up the giant Q at Lonsdale Quay. From that vantage point, I could clearly see that the sundeck solarium has been enclosed to form a new indoor lounge.
But can anyone confirm that a buffet is also being installed? As I remember, in previous posts there was only speculation. It would make sense as the other 3 ships on Route one will be buffet-equipped, but as we all know what would make sense doesn't always happen.
It would be cool to see food service returned to the upper deck, just like going back to the days when there was a restaurant up there.

Hey, here's an idea that could be considered (but ultimately rejected) for the QNW during her current major refit—make her double-ended.
