Just thought I would let everyone know the Cumberland is sitting at the Esquimalt Drydock right now. She must of left last night and arrived this morning. She isent actually out of the water yet but sitting by the drydock and the Queen of Esquimalt was at Swartz Bay this afternoon. She must arrived earlier as she wasent there this morning.
Also looks like they have added a 12:25pm sailing from Swartz Bay to Pender Island with the Mayne Queen as I heard her on the scanner departing Swartz Bay. Seemed like an odd time to me as she usually dosent arrive back at Swartz Bay till around that time from her morning sailings. Maybe they added another one while the Cumbie is out in refit to help out with the overloads or something!

I just noticed that. Looks nice, although they should have put the tiled ceiling in the forward lounge as well.

They sort of did, but instead, they covered up the ceiling with that plastic stuff they put on the ceiling of the upper car decks of the C-Class after the refit. I guess that just protects the spray insulation up there, or to just make it look a little nicer. Also, they did take out the cafeteria, and put in a coffee shop, or I should say, the "Coastal Cafe". Oh, and they also put the Gift shop where the Snack Bar was, so there is a whole different type of lounge where the gift shop originally was. Still looks nice though.

Yeah they should of covered up the ceilings on the Naniamo. Kind of looks different too see the new interior with still the old open ceilings with the pipes showing and everything.

actually it looks like the gift shop is where the video games and playground used to be. the snack bar on the nanny was(is?) across from the chief steward office

After looking at Curtis' photos of the Nanny last summer, it looks like the gift shop was in the mid lounge. But I'm not sure where that is as to whether or not it was by the Chief Stewards office. I don't know if they changed the layout of the ferry that much, I was thinking of how the Esquimalt is layed out. But then I remember the V-Class B-Class thing. So it was different.

Yes, I agree there should be a tiled ceiling. So much work, and yet no ceiling, what the heck? LOL

I personally think they should combine a classic look, a modern look and a "West Coast" look (but it would all look fairly modern). That would provide for the best interior if you ask me....

Is anyone headed out there for hr first day of service. Im por beyond words right now but am hoping my Feb pay cheque will allow me to take a scenic cruise on her.
The basic layout of all the Vs and Bs, like was said, is quite different. Straining my memory, but aren't the Esqu and Van pretty similar? I haven't been on the Van for over 2 years, now.

There's more Nanaimo pics posted on this site now. The cafeteria layout makes alot more sense now, but again, it's still too bad they didn't cover up the ceiling with the tiles like on the C-Class. Oh well, keeps that old ferry tradition alive. www.pbase.com/kstapleton/queen_of_nanaimo

Looks like they've taken cues from the Queen of Burnaby. I believe that is a good decision as she (the Burnaby) makes some of the most efficient use of space of any of the V/B class ships.

The basic layout of all the Vs and Bs, like was said, is quite different. Straining my memory, but aren't the Esqu and Van pretty similar? I haven't been on the Van for over 2 years, now. The Van and Esq are almost identical in layout, other than the fact that the Van's aft upper deck lounge (former buffet) is more of a lounge, with some old-style wrap-around plush chairs at the tables, and standard lounge seating where the buffet used to be, whereas the Esq's same lounge has more restaurant-style seating, and still has her buffet. Has anyone actually seen the buffet on the Esquimalt in use? The real differences between the Esq/Van and the Nanaimo/NewWest floor-plan layout are the fact that the Esq/Van's midship lounges are one big room, with seating throughout, with the snakbar taking up the aft wall, whereas both the old Queen of Nanaimo and the current QoNewWest had/has a gift shop plunked in the middle of their midship lounges, with those annoyingly loud video games and children's play areas interfacing directly with the passengers in the lounge. On the Van and Esq the gift shops are where the snack bars are on the Nanny and NewWest (atleast I think there's a snack bar there on the QoNW), oposite the 'grand' staircase in the original midship lounges (before stretching), just forward of the caffeteria. btw, as far as I know, except for the QoSaanich (don't get me started on that horribly inefficient use of space), the ChiefS.'s office on the V/B class ships (I don't know about the QoBurnaby, though) is always on the starboard side of the ship, immediately forward of the caffeteria. cheers Graham

Woah, It's a good thing the SOVI is going in for this upgrade. She was really getting rough looking. Looks like she has hit the Dock at Swartz Bay a little too hard a few times. www.pbase.com/kstapleton/image/54872560

The Queen of Cumberland’s annual refit has been extended past January 24 until early February. Additional time is required to overhaul some of the vessel’s equipment.
The Bowen Queen will remain as the replacement vessel on the Swartz Bay to Southern Gulf Islands route. Because this is a smaller vessel than the Queen of Cumberland some overloads may occur at peak sailing times. All sailing times remain as scheduled.
Commercial customers please note that vehicles over 10 tonnes GVW (10,000 kg) are restricted to centre lane loading only on the Bowen Queen and Mayne Queen. This means there will be reduced capacity for commercial vehicles traveling between Swartz Bay and the Southern Gulf Islands while the Queen of Cumberland is in refit.
BC Ferries looks forward to returning the Queen of Cumberland to service in early February 2006.
It looks like the Cumberland will be out until at least early February.

The interior of the Queen of Nanaimo looks nice, too bad the V-Class won't get the same treatment.
