Circlepac trip in one day trip?

I've just been passing this idea around in my mind lately, to see if this would actually work. Seeming I pretty much did the Circlepac trip over two days, I was thinking a group of us should get together and to this trip, in one day. I just thought this would be a good idea, because instead of taking one ferry in a day, we can travel 4 different of Ferries in a day. We would of course need a vehicle or two, to make this happen.

Here are 3 itineraries of how we could go about doing this trip.

This first schedule is a long day.

Starting with Route 3:
6:00am-Islanders meet up at Departure Bay
6:20am-Queen of Cowichan leaves Departure Bay
7:55pm-Arrive at Horseshoe Bay

9:00am-Mainlanders and Islanders all meet up at Horseshoe Bay
9:35am-Queen of Surrey leaves Horseshoe Bay
10:15am-arrive at Langdale, take time to get to Earls Cove
12:15pm-arrive at Earls Cove
12:50pm-Queen of Tsawwassen leaves Earls Cove
1:40pm-Queen of Tsawwassen arrives at Saltery Bay, make way to Powell River
2:20pm-Arrive in Powell River
5:15pm-Queen of Burnaby leaves Powell River
6:35pm-Arrive at Little River, High tail it to Departure Bay
8:00pm-Arrive in Nanaimo, Islanders and Mainlanders part
9:25pm-Mainlanders leave Departure Bay on Queen of Oak Bay
11:05pm-Arrive back in Horseshoe Bay

Starting with Route 2
6:00am-Mainlanders meet up at Horseshoe Bay
6:20am-Queen of Oak Bay departs Horseshoe Bay
8:00am-Arrive at Departure Bay, meet up with Islanders
9:40am-Arrive at Little River
10:10am-Queen of Burnaby leaves Little River
11:30am-Arrive at Powell River, briefly meet up with Powell River members
12:45pm-Leave Powell River for Saltery Bay
1:25pm-Arrive at Saltery Bay
2:05pm-Queen of Tsawwassen leaves Saltery Bay
2:55pm-Arrive at Earls Cove, head for Langdale
4:30pm-Arrive at Langdale
5:15pm-Queen of Surrey leaves Langdale
5:55pm-Arrive at Horseshoe Bay-Mainlanders and Islanders Part

6:40pm-Queen of Coquitlam leaves Horseshoe Bay for Nanaimo, depending which day it is
7:20-Queen of Oak Bay leaves Horseshoe Bay for Nanaimo



Starting with Route 2 (Islanders spend one night on Mainland)

9:45am-Mainlanders meet up at Horseshoe Bay
10:40am-Leave Horseshoe Bay on the Queen of Oak Bay
12:20pm-Arrive at Departure Bay, meet up with Islanders
2:15pm-Arrive at Little River
3:15pm-Queen of Burnaby departs Little River
4:35pm-Arrive in Powell River
5:30pm-Arrive at Saltery Bay
6:25pm-Queen of Tsawwassen departs Saltery Bay
7:15pm-Arrive at Earls Cove
8:45pm-Arrive at Langdale
9:25pm-Queen of Surrey leaves Langdale
10:05pm-Arrive at Horseshoe Bay

Next Day-Islanders decide which sailing to take home

Anyways...just a thought. Tell me what you guys think. In some ways, I would kind of rather do this trip, instead of going to Mayne Island.

Ok then, first question, how to get from Langdale to Earls Cove? Saltery Bay to PR? Comox to Nanaimo? Would we have to get Circle Pacs? I could do options 1 and 3 but 6 am is too early.

At the beginning of my post, I said we would need a vehicle or two to make this possible. I would most likely be driving, but hopefully not the only one driving. (I was hoping maybe there could be an Islander driver, and a Mainlander driver)

A circlepac pass must be purchased from the terminal you start at, in order to save about 15% on fares. So Mainlanders would purchase the tickets from Horseshoe Bay, and Islanders would purchase their tickets from Departure Bay or Little River, depending where we start.

For prices, I've calculated that for:

Drivers:
Total Original Price-$128.55
15% Discount (Circlepac)-$19.28
Overall Cost-$109.27 + Gas

Passengers (ie: Graham )
Total Original Price-$28.60
15% Discount- $4.29
Overall Cost- $24.31 (+ Gas and Vehicle Fare for driver, $10.00?.. ;D)

That's a pretty good deal if you ask me. If you look into it closely, like Graham would to get more for your buck, it costs about the same and a tiny bit more than it would to go to Mayne Island.

would it not be easier and a little more fair to the drivers to take the total for all car and passengers and divide it by the passengers in the vehicle. example 4 people and one car would cost each person $45.55 plus gas. I know i would be a little more willing to drive if i went on the trip if it was divided up that way

Hmm, maybe. I would have to convince my dad to drive some 300km though. And at $1.20 a litre for a long, pointless journey, I just might meet up with you if while I'm in Comox.

That's a good idea. If everyone was willing to pay that (which I would be), then we could easily arrange that. I'm sure we'd all be paying cash anyway.

I can drive but I would prefer itinerary 2 or 3, and actually 2 I would prefer but 3 isent a problem. I have accomadations in Vancouver so that one wouldent be a problem for me. If you wanna do that instead of Mayne Island that is fine with me as I have that weekend off so that would work good for me!

I think we should do the circlepac number 2 or 3. THis would be a fun trip to do. More fun than going to Mayne Island. We already have three drivers if we were to go. Me Scott and Chris if you were gonna drive.

Yeah I would prefer the third option as it's later in the morning but arriving in Vancouver later at night. But either 2 or 3 is fine for me.

Remember, 3 is more convienient for the Mainlanders, but not so much for the Islanders. If the Islanders don't mind staying with one of their friends, or staying at a hotel or something, on the Mainland, then I say go with #3. But, I don't mind waking up early to go on a Ferry trip! Even if it's 4:30 in the morning.

Either one is fine with me. I probably will be staying in a hotel so I could do either one. Only thing with number 2 is getting to Nanaimo by 8am but I could probably do that. Just gotta get up earlier.

to throw my 2cents in on the 3 options:

- if we do "Option 3", then we have our last sailing in the dark, from Langdale to HSB (late august has sunset before then).

Can I rally some support for either of the first 2 options, and have a full day trip?

If we do Option #3, and I take my car....I might just end up sleeping in my car at HSB on the Saturday night, and take the first ferry home to Island on Sunday morning.......

Optiion three is most convenient for me and us mainlanders, option 1 can be possible moreso than 2 but I still prefer option 3.

Well I just had another idea. Why dont we just do the Comox to Powell River ferry on Saturday, meet up with the Powell River guys and do a roundtrip to Texada, as foot passengers only, and then either camp or get a hotel in Powell River. I am sure you can get group rates. Then Sunday head down to Saltery Bay then Langdale then back to Vancouver. Who ever wants to camp can camp, who ever wants to stay in a hotel can. That would be another neat option to do. What do you think?

Option #4 sounds very good to me. A chance to meet Shane & Curtis, and to sail on the N.I.P.
