why wouldn't they keep the 2 sisters on route 2?

which sisters ? Coquitlam and Cowichan or Oak Bay and Surrey? They're gonna have Surrey in Cowichans place after her midlife refit and then Cowichan is going to be in Albernis place during her midlife. Then the summer Alberni gets back she's the #2 out of Departure Bay. I think they want the latest refited ships doing route 2 right now that's why.

Yeah, if it were up to me, I would have them both running route 30, then have Oak Bay and Surrey doing route 2, and Alberni and Newwest doing route 3

the alberni is best as a Route 30 Vessel. shes best suited as a truck carrier, same with the new west, she gots the HP to haul trucks.

I suppose the Coquitlam or Oak Bay will be in Langdale for a few days to teach the crew and certify them on the Marine Ecav Chutes.

They Langdale crew were probably there when they triggered them for the first time 2 or so weeks ago. I heard somewhere that the unexperienced crew (of course they know how to operate it, but I mean they don't know how all of the new gizmos work) of the upgraded ferry get to go there to learn how to operate it all before washington marine gives the ferry back to BC Ferries.

Then the summer Alberni gets back she's the #2 out of Departure Bay. But the Alberni is only on route 30 because it has a larger truck capacity than the other ships (New West also has a greater truck carrying capacity). It would make no sense to reduce capacity on a route designed for truck use....

Doesn't the Esquimalt also have a good truck carrying capacity? When I saw pics of it last it didn't have platforms.

Hmm let me re word that. After the Queen of Surrey gets back from Midlife refit she will be the #1 out of Departure Bay and in the place of the Queen of Cowichan. This will be the summer of 2006 and the Queen of Cowichan will be the #2 out of Departure Bay. By the winter of 2006, the Queen of Alberni goes in for midlife refit, having the Queen of Cowichan replace her for the time it takes to refit her. Estimated time: 4 months. When she gets back the Queen of Alberni will be back on route 30 by mid 2007 and in time to start seeing the first Super C-Class come aboard the fleet.

Yeah she does but she like the other 2 V-Class, have alot less horsepower than Newwest and Alberni. Causing her to do the route in 2 and a half hours instead of 2 hours. But they could do that if they wanted to, but it disrupts service for a long time.

i bet you if they push the esquimalt, they could make her do 2 hours.

i bet you if they push the esquimalt, they could make her do 2 hours. Sure, but there has to be a reason why they operate her at a lower speed.

The Newest has 8200 more horsepower and goes just 1.3 knots faster thasn the Esq and holds less cars for more speed

Keep in mind those numbers for the Esquimalt include the capacity for the platform deck... The platform deck is no longer used due to them not meeting certification standards...
With the New West, she runs four 14 year old Finnish Wartsila Diesels, while the Esquimalt (as well as her sisters) run the two German MAK Diesels....

Semi-trucks are WAY heavier than cars PSI. For example, my dad drives a concrete truck, which can weigh up to 50 tons loaded, but it is not the size of 50 cars stacked together. The truck however is the heaviest on the road; four wheels on the front (twin-steer), eight wheels on the back and four on the very back which are called boosters for heavy loads. 16 wheels and up to 50 tons on a single highway truck is pretty big, your head only comes up to the bottom of the cab. So if you were to load the New West and Esquimalt with these, which do you think will go faster? That's a no brainier.

I notice, like the Coquitlam the Oak Bay has those big fans installed to clear the air on the lower vehicle deck. The BC Ferries which is hugely off centre looks awful, but I think the windows look just fine.

Yeah it looked like they didn't cover up the windows that much in the spot they usually make the "BC Ferries". I haven't seen it myself yet, but by the sounds of it, it sounds like they're putting it in the same spot they did before they stripped the paint off.

It's about double the size it was before, but also about 20-30% smaller than the Coquitlam and Cowichan's BC Ferries.

Either Deas or Sea Trials

Apparently, the Oak Bay is on sea trials, and because of this the Esquimalt has moved into Berth one this evening to free up Berth 2 at Departure Bay to prepare for the Oak Bay's return...
(This is a rumor from the mate on the Esquimalt)
