Hey has anyone ever thought that the ferry forums should have a flagship or a main ferry? If so maybe we should have one Examples: Queen of Sidney, Langdale Queen, Queen of the North, Queen of Esquimalt, Bowen Queen, Sunshine Coast Queen, Sechelt Queen, Mill Bay, North Island Princess, Queen of Chilliwack(LOL), Powell River Queen, one of the Super C Class or other New Ferries, Spirit of British Columbia, Pender Queen, Smokwa, Queen of Cowichan, Queen of Surrey, Queen of Alberni, Quadra Queen II, Queen of Nanaimo...You Get the Picture. Any BC Ferry Gone or still here. So if you Approve I'll make a poll

I don't think this web-community would ever be able to agree on a single flagship......just because of the diversity of likes & dislikes.
In a way, we've been thru this debate a few times already, in various other threads about what our favourite ships are, or what we think is beautiful or ugly.
But hey, if you want to do the "Miss Ferry-Forum Pageant", then my vote is for the late Ms. Stena Danica, she was a beauty.....
maybe a "ship of the month" might be better, as this would give a chance to make everyone happy for a while. We could do the Q-Saanich when Dane is away on vacation.
so a rotating flagship-of-the-month might be a good compromise.....we could put it on a sticky'd thread at the top of one of the forum sections. It would be like an online-scrapbook of photos, thoughts, likes/dislikes, history, etc on that 1 particular ship. A good way of accumulating lots of thoughts on 1 specific ship.

Here is my thinking on some of the Months the ships I think should be for these listed months
March Queen of the North (The Month She Sunk on the 22nd of 2006)
May Queen of Surrey (The Month she had the Engine Fire in 2003, on the 23rd I think)
June Queen of Tsawwassen (One of the 2 that started it all on the 15th in 1960)
August Queen of Victoria (The Month She was hit by the Freightor in 1970, on the 2nd I believe)
October Queen of Sidney (The Month She was Launched in 1959)

Hard-workin', all-weather, BC-built MV Tenaka is my nominee for a calendar girl. Tenaka is a grocery supplier, school bus and vital link 'tween Cortes and Quadra Islands. Darn pretty, too:

Hard-workin', all-weather, BC-built MV Tenaka is my nominee for a calendar girl. Tenaka is a grocery supplier, school bus and vital link 'tween Cortes and Quadra Islands. Darn pretty, too: I thought that you might choose the Teneka, BrianWilliams, after the attention you dutifully (and with good reason) paid to her after that unfortunate incident where you found those missing from that small-plane crash last year. She is the one minor ship that I haven't seen that I would most like to get aboard (same goes for her, and I use this term loosely, " minor" route); it seems that I'm just a few years too late to see her in the Gulf Islands on route 5 . Cheers P.S. I wasn't just paying lip-service when I called her 'graceful' in the tread mentioned above. If there's a similar minor-ship design worthy of being used again, I'd have to say that it should be her's.

On another note: Is that a 'Dangerous Goods' (or is it 'hazardous materials'?) flag being flown from the Teneka in that shot?

I agree, Tenaka is a really neat little ferry... maybe my favorite. If you ever get a chance to take her to Cortes, make sure you give yourself some time to explore Rebecca Spit, right beside the Heriot Bay terminal. Cortes needs at least a few hours exploring to see the highlights, and the forty minute ride is one of the nicest ones on the coast.

Aww, thanks for the nice comments about MV Tenaka (and remembering our sad time a year ago). Not a new pic, but when Tenaka's skipper puts the hammer down, her stern drops and she takes off smartly: Cortes is a large island. Only the teeny southern bit has roads. Beautiful Von Donop Inlet nearly cuts across the central island. A short forest hike from Squirrel Cove leads to Von Donop's head. But the powdery white sand at Manson Landing almost meets Cortes' promise. Maybe this is a Caribbean island?

I think, the "ship of the month" idea is good. It would be nice, if there is a sticky thread on that one, and members requested for photos, also interior ones, memories, etc. too. Would be interesting also for the non-regular visitors as you would get alot of info on ONE ship in ONE thread plus some nice pics to look at.

So here is what I think I we'll do.
We'll do a ferry of the month, and we'll go by what was mentioned earlier on in the thread.
January: Pacificat Discovery (Pulled out of service)
Febuary: Queen of Saanich (Collides with Royal Vancouver)
March: Queen of the North (Sinks on March 22nd)
April: Queen of Coquitlam (First ferry to undergo mid-life upgrade)
May: Varies
June: Queen of Oak Bay (Sewells Marina, June 30th)
July: Tachek (Undergoes $1.2 million refit)
August: Queen of Victoria (Collision in Active Pass)
September: Queen of Prince Rupert (Rescues stranded teens off Dodge Island)
October: C Class - varies
November: Mayne Queen (Damages boats while pulling out of Snug Cove)
December: Queen of Capilano (Puts out fire on a sailboat)
So in the next week find the best picture of the Tachek that you have and send it to me via PM. I'll accept nominations until July 12th at 11PM. I will then create a poll where we will decide the our picture of the month!

We could have a certain class for a month and not just a ferry Like for Example The Sidney Class could be for June and the C Class could be for October
