Yes, in our region of Georgia Strait, Chrome Island, Ballenas Island, up by Parksville, Entrance Island, and Merry Island are all manned stations.
Chrome was destined for de-staffing as were the all the rest a couple of years ago until the Federal Senate Committee put the brakes on the idea. This is why Government is shutting down Coast Guard bases and Vessel Traffic Radio Services.

I've seen her do 24 knots before when she was behind schedule. Yea, and I saw the Nimpkish run 25 knots on the Queen of Richmond trip a couple years ago. I honestly don't believe you there. I'm not sure her crews would even be permitted to do that, especially in these times. The fuel wasted on those extra few knots would be fairly substantial. Are you Dissn' the Cheese? Hater's be hatin'

Thanks for sharing that with us, Piglet! I never did get a chance to ride her before she was retired. She spent a few winters after retirement in Swartz Bay in the late '70's until she was finally sold in 1981.

Better break out the WD-40 for those overhead loading gates on the pickle forks. When I rode her a few weeks ago they were looking a little on the rusty/painted over side. Nothing a whack with a sledgehammer wouldn't fix.

A shot of Evergreen State on her inter-island run in September 1983. Photo Copyright Mirrlees 2012.That's a great photo. Thanks for posting it. In 1983, Evergreen would have been one of the mainline boats, or perhaps even the Sidney boat, if a Super wasn't running the route at that time. The concept of the inter-Island ferry did not come until later - I want to say late 80's, but I'm not really sure. Our experts, EGFleet, or Barnacle, can probably tell us for sure. This was taken from Elwha, she was on the international for the Summer. After about mid September, Evergreen State would handle the run to Sidney for the winter.

I stand corrected, thanks for clearing that photo up, WCK. It is indeed Vision of the Seas.

Um, that's the Queen of Saanich. How can u tell? 1. No windows on the Deck 3 platforms. 2. Three ventilators on the roof of the upper-aft lounge.
